Facebook Likes and Followers and Publicize connections

  • Unknown's avatar

In the past, people could either Like a Facebook page, or Follow a Facebook page (or both). The Page Likes were counted via the publicize connection, and showed on the WP front page. Now, Facebook only allows for people to Follow a Facebook page. So my ‘follower’ count on WP is no longer growing, because my facebook Likes don’t grow. But the number of my Followers on FB is growing, which does not show now on WP. What can I do to maken WP count the Followers of my FB page instead of the Likes of my FB page?

  • Hello there,

Facebook long deprecated the ability to like via third parties back in 2017: https://www.technobugg.com/facebook-kill-third-party-app-invites-depreciates-like-apps/

What can I do to maken WP count the Followers of my FB page instead of the Likes of my FB page?

As far as I know, this is no longer possible and the API from Facebook that powers this, is unsupported on their end.

Out of curiosity, what are you looking to do exactly with regards to this.

Perhaps we can offer some alternative insights.

    Hi!

Well, my main concern is that the count of my followers is not growing as much as my following is actually growing. If you have a look at my blog, in the lef hand corner is a widget mentioning “Join 30,518 other followers”. It accumulates the e-mail followers, the WP-reader followers, the FB-likes and twitter-followers. But since FB stopped the Likes, and only allows for Followers, this number is not showing actual numbers anymore. (my Likes on FB cannot grow anymore. But my number of Followers is. And that is not showing now.) First world problems, I know. But this is important for getting good PR and credits for the Blog. And attention for the subject of my Blog.

If there is a solution, I would love to know!

  • Hello there,

Ideally, Facebook would need to support the API so that the Facebook page and website page reflect each other, but this is unlikely.

I see you’re using social follow widgets, to make the fact you have 40k plus followers on Facebook, you may wish to move these to underneath the Follow Blog widget, to make these more prominent.

    I hope this helps.

My WP won’t connect to FB Page anymore and I am finding this most inconvenient.
It states: WordPress.com ran into an error! (code 21)
How do I rectify this please?
