Facebook likes disappeared

  Hi, I had 75 facebook likes on a post yesterday and it is showing up today as 0. How would this happen? And how do I fix it to get them back?

  Hi there,

  I am not 100% sure what might have caused this. This doesn’t look like a WordPress issue.

  But I think this can be one of many possible cases :

  I believe Facebook likes are associated to the URL of the post.
  For example, I can have 50 likes on omkar.wordpress.com/mypost

  But if I change the post’s url to omkar.wordpress.com/myarticle
  The likes associated to this new URL will be zero.

  Again, I’m not sure if this is the issue. I’m just thinking of one possible case out of the many cases.

  Yes, that has happened to me once before so I don’t change my URL after publishing now, but thanks!

  Hong Kong: A Day In K-Town!

  I posted it on my FB page and it’s been shared a few times, and the last time I looked yesterday it was at 75 as mentioned.

  I’m part of a group on FB and know many people have shared and liked it so it’s strange.

  Any other ideas?

  Hello,

  It’s weird. But surely this is not a WP issue. I don’t have other ideas for now but I can share a tool which shows the number of likes accurately. It’s called Facebook Debugger and can be found here –
  https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug

  A side note – It looks like your site is self hosted (and not on WordPress.com). While on these forums (forums.wordpress.com), we only provide support for sites hosted on WordPress.com.

  So I would suggest you to take this forward in two places where you can get the right answers –

  1) WordPress.org forums – https://wordpress.org/forums
  2) Facebook help center – https://www.facebook.com/help/

  I have found that if you change the style of the sharing buttons – from icon only to “official buttons” or the other way round – you’ll find that the number of shares is visible again. I had the same problem just now, and changed my sharing buttons from icon only to official buttons and the problem is solved.

  I don’t know why this should happen though.
