facebook meta tag for images on wordpress.com blog
-
Hi, how can I add a open graph meta (I think that’s what I need?) to images on my wordpress.com site, so when I post my url in facebook it shows the image in the preview pane? Many thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You shouldn’t really need to add any meta data to your photos. Instead, the images just need to fulfill a few requirements in order to be picked up by Facebook. The biggest requirement that most photos fail at is that they need to be at least 200 px on at least one side. Anything less than that won’t be picked up.
You can check out the URL of any post (not photo, a post or a page) on Facebook’s debugger and see what if anything is wrong with the post or images and then act to fix them:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
It requires an active Facebook account, but that doesn’t sound like it will be a problem for you!

Thank you amightywp. Most of my images are at least 200px on one side. I checked out the url for my home page and facebook debugging came back with the following;
<meta property=”og:image” content=”https://s0.wp.com/i/blank.jpg” />
Appears not to be picking up any image?

Ah! OK, for that you need to make sure that you have a Blavatar (blog gravatar) chosen for your site. That is the first and major thing that Facebook tends to pick up. You can set your blavatar by going to Settings >> General, and it’s the box on the right hand side of the screen.
Once you do, you’ll need to go back to that debugging page and have it rescrape your site to grab the new information (I find that sometimes I have to have it scrape a couple of times to get it right).
