Facebook Preview Problem

  • Unknown's avatar

As of about April 15, Facebook has been showing “301 Moved Permanently” for my post previews. Looking at the Facebook Open Object Graph Debugger output for working posts and failing posts, it appears that the og:url property is not set for the failing posts. Does anyone have insight on this problem?

    Hi brianbalke,

Oh! I’ve run hypnosisrising.com through Facebook’s Debug tool but can’t see any 301 errors there. What is the exact URL you are sharing to Facebook when this happens?

You can either reply here or start a chat and we’ll be happy to take a closer look.

Hi, Gemma. Thanks for looking at this. Here’s an example:

    https://hypnosisrising.com/2019/04/30/birth-to-breakup/

The object graph debugger gets into a 301 loop on the https. Somehow it gets referred to http and then back to https, which is where it dies. On the earlier posts, it identifies an og:url entry and accepts that – though it’s still the same URL. See for example:

  • Hi Brian, thanks for that. I can confirm I’m seeing the same thing on Facebook’s debugger. I also see it on Twitter’s card validator. But I’m not seeing it if I view the site myself, or curl the address from a command prompt. So it makes me wonder if you’ve got a plugin that’s serving different headers depending on the user agent.

I noticed you updated an AMP plugin around that time. Would you be willing to test to see if that’s the culprit? You might need to clear site cache and what not as well, so could you also contact our Business support team directly when you do this?
