Why is my Facebook Share button not showing up on homepage post?

The Facebook Share button is not showing up on my homepage post. It is showing up on the other Pages, however.

In an attempt to fix it, I created a new Home page to be set up as my front page. On this page, the Share button now shows up, but it doesn’t populate the Avatar like it does on the other pages when you click on Share.

If you look now, you’ll see I now have two Home pages. The first is with the default Home page … the second, the one I set up.

    This is maddening.

  • You’ll need to select “Posts, pages, and index pages” from the Settings -> Sharing section of your blog’s Dashboard to display the sharing buttons on your blog page.

When I click on Facebook Share on the “About” page, it includes a picture of the band’s logo. But when I click on Share from the Home page posts, it doesn’t. Do you know why this is?

I’m sorry, but unfortunately, Facebook chooses which images to display when you share a post – we don’t have any control over that aspect.

The problem is … it’s not showing ANY images to select for the thumbnail. Only the WordPress logo and the silhouette image. Why isn’t it picking up any of my images?

  • Facebook uses a set of criteria to determine which image to pick, and unfortunately this criteria changes frequently. It’ll drive you crazy trying to keep track of it.

    Maybe I wasn’t very clear.

When you manually click to Share the post on Facebook on my post, it doesn’t give you ANY images to choose from when posting. I’ve read from several other posters who said they’ve had problems with regard to WHICH images show up that they choose. In my case, I can’t get ANY image to show up when posting on Facebook. Just the WordPress logo or a silhouette.

    Thanks.

  • Yes, that’s the same issue. Facebook uses a proprietary set of criteria to determine which image to use. In your case, it didn’t find any.
