Facebook share counts continue to not appear

I understand Facebook made changes recently (API?) which meant WordPress.com blogs could no longer expect their social media platforms would continue to update on number of times a post had been shared to Facebook.
That Facebook change was made, I believe, around mid-April. However, my last post was created around 30th April, and uploaded 1 May. It carried on reporting how many shares to Facebook it was receiving, and I was using Official Buttons. Two days ago, however, it stopped doing so, and reverted to zero. I went from 175 shares to, now, 7.
I haven’t migrated my blog, URLs haven’t changed – basically none of the other ideas suggested that might have caused this issue, according to my reading of the problem that others are experiencing, online. I am only using social media icons as suggested via Publicize, via Sharing of Marketing and that which already comes with my WordPress blog. I’ve had some help with CSS editing recently, but before my Facebook share count suddenly began reverting to zero. Thus far it has only affected one post (and may do to all new posts). Older post counts, if I use the Official buttons, seem fine, still.
Its confusing. Can someone please advise if this situation is now known about, beyond the sudden problem that emerged as Facebook made changes, and if WordPress. com support has now corrected the problem (and what that is)?

Hi there,
I checked your Sharing settings and I see that you have the Icon & Text option selected. For the counts to appear you need to select the Official Buttons option.
Also, can you please let me know the post you noticed the drop in shares so I can have a look?

Hello fstat, thanks for responding.
Please note I was using Official Buttons when my blog post share numbers zeroed. I only just changed to option “Icon & Text” out of disgust!
Facebook made its changes around mid-April, I think. I did not create my last post until around beginning of May (and using Official Buttons).
Shares went up to 174, then two days ago zeroed. Now they’ve restarted at the beginning and only number 8 shares now.

Sorry, fstat – forgot to mention that I turned back to Official Buttons just before sending the post you asked for.
But the problem is not if I’m using Official Buttons or not, unfortunately – its something else.

I’m not sure why this is happening but I guess it’s on Facebook’s end as we don’t control the share count. However, I have asked our developers and I’ll update you as soon as I hear from them.

Your post now displays the correct shares number. Those numbers come from Facebook directly and we have no control over them. The issue you were have was a glitch on Facebook’s end.
