Facebook share icon not working

I needs some help with the Facebook sharing icon

My wife wants to share my posts on her Facebook page. Although my dashboard settings in the “share” have the FB icon enabled, on the site it’s a “like”, not a “share”. When she clicks the icon, it doesn’t appear anywhere on her FB page; it just says “1 like”.

I believe it should say something like “Diane liked a post from Rob…etc etc” and the post should appear for her friends to see?

Can someone please look at my settings and see if I’m doing something wrong? FB is the only social media we use regularly so it’s important to be able to share my posts with my wife’s friends especially as a new blogger looking for readership.

    Or am I misunderstanding?

    Thanks

    Hey there,

The problem is the different styles of Facebook icons work a little differently. The ones you have selected now are the “official” ones. If you go back to the sharing page and choose anything other than the official buttons under “button style” the Facebook share will work the way you intend.

Let me know if you have any trouble with that or need more specific instructions.

    Hi Liz
Thanks !!; I believe that solved that issue

As usual, I have another question: Somebody wrote an awesome inspirational message on my about page that I’d like to share on the page as a comment; However, it came directly to my email without appearing as a comment on the WP dashboard so I’m unable to post it

Do you know why that might be and how I could get it to appear on the page?

    Thanks !!

This is a privacy and permission to publish issue. Comment are open on your About Us page. If I had the option of submitting a comment on an About page and I did not make that choice, but sent you a personal email instead and you chose to make it public I would not be a happy camper.

    Got it.

Sorry to sound invasive; As a newbie I have a lot to learn and thought I was missing something

No problem. You are new and it takes some time to work these things out. Best wishes with your blog.

No problem, always happy to help :)

I can imagine two ways what you describe might happen.

If the comment was really posted as a comment, it will appear as a comment on your dashboard. Based on what you’ve said it sounds like you already checked there, but you might click the “pending” “spam” and “trash” links at the top of the comment page just to make sure it didn’t end up somewhere strange.

If it doesn’t show up there, my guess is it was actually left as “feedback” in your contact form, not as a comment. To see if that’s the case go to Feedback>feedback (it’s the submenu feedback under the Feedback menu) and see if the message shows up there.

If it does, I’m afraid you won’t be able to post it as a comment, but you could e-mail the person who left the note and ask them if you could post their thoughts on your about page as a sort of “testimonial”. Alternatively you could ask them to re-share their thoughts as an actual comment and then it would show up the way you want.

If the message isn’t showing up on your dashboard in either of those places, let me know and we’ll try to figure out something else.

Also, just to emphasize the point Timethief made, the permission part is really important.

    Hi Liz

Yes it showed up in the feedback so now I understand. I did write back asking if they’d be willing to share as a comment

    Thanks again !!!!
