Facebook Share Problem
-
Each time I update my blog I want to share the update via Facebook amongst others. The problem is when I click the share via Facebook button at the bottom of my post it just automatically populates the share info with old info, and it can’t be changed. People see it on Facebook and ignore it as they think they have already read it. I am doing a 365 project so want to update every day but don’t want the same message to go out every time.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have tried sharing my postes from 3 different devices now and everytime it just populates facebook with the same photo and text. Can anyone help with this please?

Hi there,
I just checked your blog, and when I click the Facebook share button at the bottom of each post I get details specific to that post (so each post is different).
For example, I went to the first post on your blog and clicked the Facebook share button: https://cloudup.com/cmud8jmBdXm
A window popped up with the photo and text from that post: https://cloudup.com/cW4IVTwJl6t
Are you seeing something different when you click that sharing button? Or are you sharing the posts in a different way?

Hi, thanks for the reply. The problem is with sharing the page “The Daily Shot” I update that page everyday and will for the rest of the year, but when I share it it defaults to the same text and the photo from day one. I can’t change it. Even if I post a link separately it changes it to the same picture and text. People will ignore it thinking they have already seen the picture.

Ah, I see what you mean. When you share a post or page to Facebook, Facebook saves the information about that page and will reuse it the next time you share that same page.
You can ask Facebook to update its saved information using the Facebook debugger:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
You can enter the link into that tool and click on Debug. Then, you can click the “Fetch new scrape information” button to ask Facebook to get the new information about the page. That will make sure Facebook is grabbing the most recent information for that page when it’s shared there.

You are a star, thanks very much, followed you guidance and have just posted a new post, with up to date photo. Thanks

Just out of interest is it the same for Google+ that seems to pick a picture at random, is there a similar tool for them that you can point me at?

You’re welcome — I’m so glad that fixed the issue on Facebook! Unfortunately, there’s no equivalent tool for Google+ that will update the saved or cached information that Google has for that page.
If you’re running into trouble with the Google+ share button grabbing the wrong image (or just a random image) from that page, I’d recommend heading to https://plus.google.com/ and manually sharing the link there instead of using the sharing button. That way, you can browse through the images Google+ sees for that page to choose the one you want to share with the link.
