Facebook share: RSS Logo in display wtf?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi friends,

I incorporated the share this feature on our blog. The Facebook sharing button doesn#t seem to work properly. If you click on that little icon (this article: http://weichensteller.wordpress.com/2010/12/10/selbstaendigkeit-ein-weg/#more-145) the preview of the share comes up. Please try this. My problem here is this, that this display the RSS logo.
This is not suitable and I have no explanation why this is so. It would be much better, if I could have a picture on display here or our blavatar or something.

It’s really frustrating because I just can’t find a solution. Can anyone help?

    Thanks a lot?

I clicked the button and it appears to be working for me. Have you resolved this? If not, then here’s the contact link for Staff > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    Hi Thief,

unfortunately it’s not working. Please see this screenshot which should explain what I am talking about. This comes up, when I click the Button for “Sharing on facebook”.

The RSS-Symbol besides the article post shouldn’t be there. What can I do?

@weichensteller: The reason for this is simple: you do not have any other images on your posts that Facebook finds of suitable dimensions for a thumbnail. So, try inserting at least one image on each post entry and see if that changes. It will take about 24 hours for changes to be effective on Facebook.

For free images you can try Zemanta:

I believe timethief also has a list of resources for free images on her website, but I forgot where. She might drop by later and give the link.

P.S. If you search on Google, one of the ways to fix this is to change the Meta or Link tags but we don’t have access to that on WordPress.COM.

    @weichensteller
There are 71 sources of free images for bloggers on my Resources page. Scroll down to “images (free sources) and be sure to comply withe the Terms of Use posted on the individual sites http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/resources/
Also if your presize the images so they are thumbnail size 150 x 150 prior to uploading them thenn you will have the best image quality.

    Hi Airodyssey, hi Timethief,

thanks for the help. This might be the solution…I will definately give it a try. It’s a little stupid though that you have to insert at least one image to every single post. I mean there are some articles that just don’t need an image.

I also don’t understand why Facebook uses the RSS logo …. it’s a mystery.

Oh well…..seems like this is one of the downturns of using WordPress.COM…..

But thanks again you guys…I really appreciate your help!!!!

    Philipp
