Facebook timeline

On my Facebook page it changed how my blog is shared on the timeline. It went from “Shared a link” to “published an article”. It has changed the look of the timeline post and I’m finding that I have a lot fewer readers since that change. I don’t think my writing started sucking all of a sudden, so how do I change this? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Lindsey,

How are you sharing your posts to Facebook? Are you using Publicize as described here?

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/

When I share an article to my timeline from Publicize, it still says “Shared a link” as shown by the screenshot here:

Can you share a snapshot of the “Published an article” phrasing in action? You can upload a screenshot to your Media Library if necessary.

    Thanks for the response, Jeremy!

I am publishing according to the directions. I hit Publish like I always have since I started my blog. I am not aware of any changes on my end that has caused the change on FB. I noticed as well that a friend of mine has the same “published an article” phrase as mine. Hers changed all of a sudden the same time mine did. We both went from “shared a link” to “published an article” on the same day.

I have uploaded a screen shot to my media library for you to take a look at. Thanks!

    Hi Lindsey!

I’ve done a bit of investigating, and it looks like this is due to some changes we’ve made recently to the Publicize feature and specifically, how links are shared to Facebook. The end goal is to increase the effectiveness of shared articles. The wording of the post is a small change we’ve made recently. We’re always looking for feedback. If you have thoughts regarding the new wording or anything else you would like to see, could you post them to the Ideas forum here?

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

    hey Jeremy,

Is there a way I can change the way my blog posts to Facebook? As noted in my previous post, my blog stopped showing up on the Timeline when the Publicize feature was changed. I have had several people ask me if I’m still writing my blog. They say that they aren’t seeing anything posted on FB timeline like it would before the Publicize changes. My number of viewers have drastically decreased since that change. Is there a way that this can be changed in my settings?

    Hey Lindsey,

It looks like your blog is still connected to the following Facebook page through the Publicize options:

    https://www.facebook.com/okielinz

It looks like your posts should be successfully getting posted to Facebook.

Facebook uses something called EdgeRank to determine what to show to various readers. So, it’s possible that your posts aren’t getting shown to as many individuals. That’s going to be a Facebook algorithm and not something we have control over. Here’s a detailed article that breaks down EdgeRank:

    http://blog.bufferapp.com/understanding-facebook-news-feed-algorithm

From that perspective, there’s little we can do to get your blog posts from your Facebook page shown to more readers. Publishing to Facebook from Publicize shouldn’t have an effect on how many readers see your posts.

Does that help to answer your question? If not, please let me know!

    Best,

    Jeremey
