    Hi there,
Be aware that when someone comments on one of your blog posts on Facebook, a share is not recorded on the Facebook button on your blog. The only shares recorded on your blog are those of visitors who clicked into the blog and then clicked the share icon below the post(s).

As Volunteers cannot help with social share count issues, I tagged this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Thanks for your help! Yes! I was able to see the count of visitors who clicked into my blog through fb next to the facebook button before and now I can’t so I was wondering if it has anything to do with my domain.

My blog has a fb share button but it used to have a view count box next to it, ever since I bought a domain the counter box disappeared. I want to know how to change it

    Hi @nathicard88,

I’ve recently bought a domain. Before I was able t see on my blog the facebook view count but now I can’t.

Just to make sure we’re on the same page, you’re referring to the share count in blue that appears next to the Facebook icon at the bottom of your post here:

    http://d.pr/i/27H2

    Is that correct?

If so, that share count is based on the URL of your post. So, before you purchased a primary domain on your site, the URL was as follows:

    Collect moments not things

When you registered the custom domain, the URL changed to the following:

    http://atravelholicblog.com/2015/03/23/collect-moments-not-things/

Since the URL changed, Facebook doesn’t “see” any shares across it’s platform for that particular post. Unfortunately, there isn’t a fix for this issue other than either A) continuing with the custom domain and accumulating shares on atravelholicblog.com or B) going back to the default WordPress.com domain here:

Thanks Jeremy! Correct me if I am wrong, does the number that shows right now in my home page next to facebook (7) is the number of times this link was shared on fb or is the number of times that people clicked in the link through fb and that counts as view.
Because for what I understand or at least the way it was before I got a domain was showing (154) which I assumed was the number of people who clicked my link through fb.
I started to share my new URL to gain views but it is not going up even though in my stats is showing lots of visits. I’m confused!

Correct me if I am wrong, does the number that shows right now in my home page next to facebook (7) is the number of times this link was shared on fb or is the number of times that people clicked in the link through fb and that counts as view.

The number shown here – http://d.pr/i/1hRnD – (7) is the number of times someone has shared your post on Facebook, not clicked through the link through Facebook.

That second number (the number of people that have clicked through your link on Facebook to view your site) is counted under the Referrers section on your stats page here:

    https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?unit=1&blog=73504856

So, when someone shares your post URL with others, that registers in the icon as a share. When someone clicks to your site from Facebook, that’s registered as a referral. Does that help to clarify?

Yes! Thank you. One last question, how can I add a view counter box then? Is it possible?

To display your site stats? You can do that with the Blog Stats widget shown here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/blog-stats-widget/

Just a note, that includes all views to your blog (not just those through Facebook). Would that work?

I thought each icon had a hit counter, but yes I guess that will work! Thanks Jeremy for all the help!!

I’m afraid the icons don’t have a hit counter. They only display the share numbers (how many times your link has been shared on that particular platform). Let us know if you need anything else!
