Facebook Widget Only Displays If Logged Into Facebook
-
I used the Facebook widget but it only displays if I am signed into Facebook. The result is that if my blog visitors are not signed into FB or don’t yet have a FB account all they see is an empty box.
Has this been resolved? Is there a work around? I am currently using a FB badge but it is very small and I am having problems with my Fan Page updating the status.
I appreciate your assistance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Did you use this site to create an embed code: http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/pagebadges.php ?
Also please make sure that your FB page is set to public and not private.
Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks for your response. Actually, I just added the Facebook widget to my primary sidebar. There isn’t any code to add as I am using WP.com.
Also, page is set to public – https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.596289060381734.1073741825.242631632414147&type=3&l=c93830be1f
I even tried to use the address above to point to my page, but it didn’t work.
When I am signed into FB the widget displays correctly. I only discovered that it was not displaying correctly when I happened to check my blog from iPhone where I wasn’t logged into FB.
I researched and read about other people who have experience similar issue, but couldn’t find anyone who provided a solution. It is a shame because I like the widget.

You are referring to the first widget on this page, right? https://ayannanahmias.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php
Could you please try to generate a new embed code at http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/pagebadges.php and paste that in the text widget?
Thank you.

I apologize for the delayed response. I have been in meetings.
So, the FB box that you see is actually generated by FB badge page. I chose to use this one because it doesn’t disappear.
What I am referring to is the Widget that is part of the WP.com menu selection. It is a box widget that you select, drop into menu, title, customize, then save. Other than that, there is no way to manipulate this widget.
This is the one that disappears when I sign out of FB. I don’t currently have it on my page because it appears blank, but can add it to bottom so that you can see what I mean if that helps?
Thanks for your continued assistance.

If you could that would be great!
Thank you.

I have added it to the right nav, at the bottom just under the flag counter.
Let me know if you can see it. As I mentioned, it doesn’t display unless I am signed into FB.
Thanks for looking into this.

Did you perhaps remove it again? I don’t see the widget listed at https://ayannanahmias.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php
-
Yes. I removed it because it makes my site look weird. I just added it again to bottom of right hand nav.
Can you see it now?

You’ll need to change some permissions on your Facebook page to make it visible to logged out users.
If you set your page to only be visible to users who are 21 and over, Facebook will not display your page to logged out users. This is because Facebook can’t determine how old someone is until they log in.
The same is true for country restrictions.
Your target audience might not be 13 – 21, however if you restrict any of those ages, you have just stopped all age groups from finding your page.
Here are the instructions to reset your settings:
1: Go to your page
2: Click Edit Page then Edit Settings
3: Click Edit to the right of Country Restrictions
4: Remove any countries (Hide this Page from viewers in these countries will automatically be selected)
5: Click Save Changes
6: Click Edit to the right of Age restrictions
7: Select Anyone (13+)
8: Click Save Changes -
Great!!! Such a simple procedure. Works perfectly now. Thank you so much. I like this widget so much better than the badge.
Appreciate all of your help. Be well and have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Ayanna
