facebook wont show an image for my HOMEPAGE only when i post it to facebook

my header image wont show when i post my homepage of my blog to facebook. my homepage is a rolling page for the latest posts, but none of those images appear as the featured image to facebook, and i dont know how to specifically set a featured image for “the homepage”. please help!

Hi there. Why do you want to post a link to your home page? It’s generally more effective to post links to individual posts. Facebook might in fact penalise you for posting a link to your home page as posting the same link over and over might be interpreted by their software as spam.
You can’t assign a featured image to your home page, but if your theme supports custom headers you can upload one of those. Also make sure you have a Blavatar image uploaded for your site. In the absence of other images Facebook usually uses one of those, but there’s no guarantee as this is determined by Facebook’s programming and WordPress.com has no control over that. P.S. I see at the moment your home page is a static page, namely your About Page. You can assign a featured image for a static page in the page editor, same way as you would for a post.

i only have my about me page as my static page because otherwise there is no image when i post my homepage. i do want to post my homepage because my ”THE AMSTERDAMMER’ header only displays on my homepage, it just becomes a small heading on my other blog pages which i find annoying and less striking
there is also no option on my settings to upload a blavatar
any help would be great! -

Just to clarify the terminology, what you refer to here is the site title. Header refers to the image that appears above that. The title as it appears on the blog won’t show when you share to Facebook, as it’s not an image but a text field. Facebook only shows an image from the page (header, featured image, blavatar, or another image inserted into the text area) along with a preview of the text content. And again, this is determined by Facebook, not by WordPress.com.
If you want the image to contain your blog title you’ll need to edit the image in a program like Photoshop to physically add the text to the photo and then upload that image as your site header. Then the image along with the title could display on Facebook, but only if Facebook picks that image to show.

youve misunderstood me. i was referring to both problems. i have no image when i post my homepage, if the homepage contains a rolling page of the latest posts. it is just an empty white box for the image part. and then the reason WHY i want to post my homepage rather than individual posts is, as you can see, on the homepage my large header is shown

Did you try flushing the Facebook cache as is suggested at the end of this support document I linked earlier: https://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-image-thumbnail/ ? That’s really the only thing you can do, as this is in Facebook’s control.
And while I understand why you want to share the home page link, I repeat that it won’t be as effective as sharing individual posts. People won’t click on your link if they see the same link posted over and over again and Facebook might even consider it spam if you do that. You want people to click on that link to read your posts, not to see the title on your front page. But I can only give you advice as to what will work better. The choice of what to do is up to you.

good advice i understand and i want to post individual posts too. however, i dont understand why my ‘the amsterdammer’ is smaller and decentralized on all my posts pages, and only normal on my homepage. if that could be resolved, it would be ok! this is wordpress not fb related

That’s how your theme is designed. If you look at the theme’s demo page you’ll see it works the same way there. You won’t be able to change it without editing the theme’s CSS and to do that you’ll need the Premium or Business upgrade. Another theme might do it yet another different way while some themes again display the title the same on all pages.

hi, as you are very helpful i was wondering if you could help me again! i cant seem to connect my blog to my instagram- when i click on the button to authorise instragram to connect nothing happens, no window opens etc

I’ve never used the Instagram widget myself, but looking at the support doc there seems to be two possibilities:
1) Are you logged in to Instagram when you click the Authorize button? If not, log in to the instagram website and then try connecting again. If it still won’t work, clear your browser cache, log in to both Instagram and WordPress.com and then try it.
2) Is this the first time ever you’re trying to connect to Instagram? See this line from the support doc:
Note that if you have granted WordPress.com access to your Instagram account in the past, then you will not see this prompt again.

The instagam widget has a hard time authorizing in the customizer view. If you try from the WP admin menu instead you will have better luck. Here’s a direct link:
