Fail: Giving WordPress Its Own Directory
-
I am a complete novice and have my WordPress site installed in a folder in my root.
In an attempt to speed up the site I wanted to stop redirction and change the URL following these instructions https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_DirectoryI followed the example:
Method II (With URL change)As the directory was already in a seperate folder I only made the following changes:
7: Copy (NOT MOVE!) the index.php and .htaccess files from the WordPress directory into the root directory of your site (Blog address).
9: Change the following and save the file. Change the line that says:
require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . ‘/wp-blog-header.php’ );
to the following, using your directory name for the WordPress core files:
require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . ‘/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php’ );I couldn’t log in so I deleted the copied index.php and .htaccess files from the root but now cannot log in at all: I get a 404 and the website is completely messed up.
http://www.kropinski.netI do have access to the files on the server through my FTP Client transmit.
Because my site was hacked I have IP2 blocker and iThemes security as well as running W3 Total Cache and Cloudflare CDN.
HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

It is the newest version of WordPress – I can’t log into tell you which but it updated a few day ago.

Sounds like you actually need help for a WordPress powered site, not a site hosted at WordPress.com. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are a little separate, and that can be confusing.
You’ll want to use the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/ for any support on managing your site. Hope that helps to point you in the right direction!
