Failed Domain Mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

I attempted to map blog.nn-pro.com but had transfered the DNS records to a free hosting account. Now my blog does not work. Not sure what to do to next.

    Please advise,

Hello there! While you do have domain mapping set up here at WordPress.com, you still need to adjust your name server settings with your domain host.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain

Currently, your name servers appear to be set to:
    ns11.domaincontrol.com
    ns12.domaincontrol.com

They need to be set to:
    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com

Once you have changed those settings with your domain registrar, it can take up to 72-hours for the adjustments to appear properly online.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

    HI Thatrobyn,

Yes, the nameservers for my website, http://www.nn-pro.com, are pointed exactly where they are suppose to be at ns11.domaincontrol.com and ns12.domaincontrol.com, respectively. I am not trying to map my domain name as I am perfectly satisfied with my website.

What I have been trying to do is map a “SUBDOMAIN” i.e. blog.nn-pro.com so visitors to my sight will be redirected to my wordpress blog hosted by wordpress.com.

The problem I am having is that when I go into my DNS Zone of my GoDaddy account, it doesn’t give me the option to change the CName Records. GoDaddy only provides an A(Host) record with an IP address which is 23.229.167.162. This is all very frustrating. WordPress support is very slow to respond and has me questioning my purchase.

How can I resolve this issue?

    C.E.

Thank you so much for the helpful additional information and clarification!

A Records are only applicable if you have your domain registered at WordPress.com. As your domain is not registered with us, and A Record won’t help.

You must have a CNAME record with GoDaddy in order to map your subdomain to your WordPress.com blog. Here is support information from GoDaddy’s site about how to set that up:

    http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/680/managing-dns-for-your-domain-names

The result will look something like this:

    blog.nn-pro.com CNAME fitnation01.wordpress.com

If you’re still struggling, you can contact GoDaddy and ask:

I would like to map a subdomain of my domain to my blog, which is hosted at WordPress.com. I want to use the subdomain blog.nn-pro.com. Can you please add a CNAME record to point that subdomain to fitnation01.wordpress.com?

Because the mapping wasn’t yet set up correctly on either side, I disconnected it and put a $13 credit in your account. You can use the credit to re-add your correct subdomain mapping.

I hope this helps! Let me know if I can assist further. Take care.

This is driving me mad. The direction should be simpler.

    No fitnation01.wordpress.com points to http://www.nn-pro.com.

WordPress.com really needs to get with the program

    This doesn’t make and sense

    “blog.nn-pro.com CNAME fitnation01.wordpress.com”

    Hiya,

I see that you repurchased the domain mapping “nn-pro.com.” If you want your site here at WordPress.com to be “nn-pro.com” then that is perfect, however from your previous conversation with my co-worker it sounded like you wanted your site to be “blog.nn-pro.com.” Is that not the case?

If so, we can get that changed out for you.

Assuming you do want “blog.nn-pro.com” to be your site’s domain name, we still need to get the CNAME set up on GoDaddy’s side. In order to do so, you will need to do the following:

    • Log in to GoDaddy and then click “Launch” next to Domains.
    • Click on nn-pro.com and then on the domain details page click on the tab “DNS Zone File.”
    • Directly under the words “Zone File” there is a link “Add Record.” Click it.
    • From the drop down select CNAME.
    • For Host enter: blog
    • For Points to enter: fitnation01.wordpress.com
    • Hit Finish
    • Save the Zone File if prompted

That’s it! You are all done on GoDaddy’s end. Like I said, we’ll still need to update your Domain Mapping on our end if you want blog.nn-pro.com, so let us know if that’s what you want.

You assume right my friend. I’ve set up the CName on GoDaddy’s side. I just need you guys to undo the domain mapping to nn-pro.com and switch it to blog.nn-pro.com. Thank you for your help.
    Cheers,

    C.E.

OK, that’s all set up for you! You should now be able to go to blog.nn-pro.com and pull up your WordPress.com site.

If you haven’t already, you can also set a primary domain (so that fitnation01.wordpress.com doesn’t stay in the location bar of your browser when you visit the site). You can specify your Primary domain by following the steps in this help document:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/domains-settings/#changing-your-primary-domain

Let me know if you have any questions.
