Failed importation of suscribers list

  • Unknown's avatar

I just imported my list of private contacts, i.e. persons with whom I communicate on a regular basis but WP rejected it (subscribers-blog-import-1667883855). They all have been informed about the creation of my new website, some of whom have sent congrats. Some are also followers of my other blog. I just would like to add them as suscribers of this new website so they can check this out.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there!

What is the file format you were trying to import?
You would only be able to import WordPress.com subscribers from a different WordPress.com site, not from third-party services. We’ll be happy to help move your followers from a different WordPress.com account; if that’s the case, just let us know the other blog address.

    Hi there,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I was just trying with a basic CSV file. Would it help if I forwarded it directly to you?

I have a mail chimp account and my blog just allows csv export, plus I have way more contacts there than the 100 I’m trying to import as subscribers to my new wp website, hence the csv.

  • I tried exporting the subscriber list here and noticed it’s just one email address on each line, with no commas.

Can you format your CSV like that and try uploading again?

And, if it doesn’t work, can you share the error you get?

    Hi there,

My CSV is formatted with a comma separating each line, at least that’s what it says in my LibreOffice settings… I wouldn’t know how to do it any way different. Is there any way you could try on your end to format it the way it should be to see if something else happens?
I do think there’s a general issue when I try to import contacts to my suscribers’ list anyways, because even when I add one email at the time in the dedicated lines on this page https://wordpress.com/people/email-followers/alizelj.wordpress.com I end up whit the same error message (subscribers-blog-import-1668095397) that says that it “triggered” WP security filters…

  • Does that error happen with every email address?

We can take a chance at formatting the CSV, but we would need access to it. Try this:

    Go to https://wordpress.com/page

Title it as you’d like, you won’t be publishing it

    Type /code

    Paste your list

    Save without publishing.

    Then update us here.

  • Noting too: I am not sure whether you or someone else added “modlook” to the thread. You won’t need to do that after a staff member replies. We follow any threads we’re involved in for new responses.

Yes, the error happens with ever email address –I just tried again.

Here is the link to the page I just created with my contacts separated by a comma:
    – preview > https://alizelj.wordpress.com/?page_id=1103&preview=true
    Let me know
    – from my dashboard > https://wordpress.com/page/alizelj.wordpress.com/1103

Let me know how it goes!

PS: I don’t know about this “modlook” thing –I didn’t do it or else involuntarily.

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for providing that list.

Are you able to upload the CSV file into your media library please so that we can work to get that uploaded.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello,

Thanks a lot for your help. No, I can’t upload documents it seems, only pictures… Is there an email address to which I could forward it to?

  • Hi there,

Yes, apologies for that – .CSV isn’t a supported file type for the media library. I went ahead and reached out to you via the email connected to your account. If you can attach the CSV file and respond to that email, then post here in the forums, we’ll be happy to take a look.

    Thanks!

Received and sent! Let me know how it goes!

Thanks a lot for your help

  • I got the message “Your subscriber list is being processed. Please check your email for status.”

Are you getting an email notification after that?

If so, we might try using a smaller list first.

    Hey!

No I didn’t received anything this time. It didn’t say it didn’t work but I’m not sure either if it has worked. How could I check?

  • Hi there,

On our end it looks like the import has failed but I was able to import on my end and that was successful. You will see your new subscribers in two places:

    https://wordpress.com/people/email-followers/alizelj.wordpress.com
    https://wordpress.com/people/followers/alizelj.wordpress.com

To explain the difference between “followers” and “email followers” if the address you import matches someone who is already a WordPress.com user (they use the same email address here) then they are listed as a follower since they can follow your site either via email, or via the WordPress.com Reader, based on their individual account settings.

Email followers don’t have an account with us, so email is the only way they receive updates. More info here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/followers/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
