Failed Invitations

I have a private blog and I keep sending an invitation to a willing party but he can’t seem to access the blog after many efforts (5 so far) from the user/invite new function. How can this problem be solved?
    Peace
    Gil

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m sorry this is happening. Has he clicked the link in the invitation email? Has he registered a WordPress.com username account?

It seems he does push the ACCEPT INVITATION button, and has created three accounts so far but still cannot access the blog in question.
    Peace

Are you sending your invitation-email to the email address that your friend used to start his account on WordPress?

I am assuming so, but I will check to be sure..

I am using WP in a class, and 11 of my students have been able to establish accounts and respond to my invitation (to edit our blog) with no problem; for four students, however, it has been a different story. One student mixed up her own multiple WP accounts, a problem that was ultimately easily resolved. For the other three students, the problem remains a mystery.

What they told me is that they are not even receiving my invitations. To investigate, I created a mock account using my own university email. (I run our class blog through a WP username affiliated with a private email account.) When I invite the mock account owner to use the blog, I, too experience the problem my students describe: whether I send the invitation to the mock username or the email affiliated with the mock account, I receive nothing, and I am unable to join the blog.

This is a serious problem, one that makes me hesitant to use WP in the future in educational settings. Please help/advise!

This problem has been going on for a long time. I can’t believe WordPress.com hasn’t fixed this problem, I think they are not concerned about their users.

This is how I made it work:

    1. Invite new user (using email address because they don’t have a wordpress account!!!)

    2. User creates a wordpress account.

    3. Contact user AGAIN to get their wordpress user name.

    4. Invite AGAIN using the wordpress user name.

    5. Beg your user to AGAIN accept the invitation using the NEW invite.

they should now show up in your blog’s user list.

This is too much for my users. I install in small businesses, most of the users are not WordPress users. I am switching to Blogger, from what I see, they are passing WordPress by…

    Greetings,
I’m letting you know this thread has been flagged for Staff attention.

  • If folks are not receiving the invitation, please try resending it via Users -> Invite New and ask them to check their email’s spam folder.

brucewpu, if a user creates their WordPress.com account using the same email address that you invited them with, they will be automatically added to the blog.

    macmanx:

my job is to set up applications so the end user does not have to learn the details. It would be very nice if you provided a way for administrators to set up end users so all they had to do is enter username and password.

    As it is now…..

When the end user receives the invite they typically skim the message then click “Accept Invitation” This takes them to the login screen. Not having an account many think “What???” and stop there, the others notice the “Register” link.

The first thing in the signup is “Blog Address”. Many think, “I don’t want a blog” and stop there. For those that read the “If you don’t want a blog…..” message, they may continue to fill out the form. Mousing over the create blog button gets “…make sure all fields are completed….”. All fields are completed EXCEPT the blog name. Those who are still with the program go back up to create a blog address.

The few who think to click on the embedded link “…just a username” fill out the new form and then are told to go back to their email inbox to activate the account. Going back to activate the account brings the user to the WordPress “What do you want to read” page. Where is the blog I was signing up for? Clicking on “My Blogs” is no help.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I now have to go back and accept the invite.

Not many make it this far.

  • That is more or less how it operated before. The result was folks adding people to their blogs without their permission.

For example, “I think timethief is a great blogger, she should write for my blog. I’ll add her now.”

Yes indeed I did have people I did not even know doing that to me.
