Failed to locate XML-RPC API

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to link my gravatar profile and I keep getting this error message. The message tells me to:
Something went wrong when trying to locate the XML-RPC API on your blog. Please log into your WordPress admin panel, then go to Settings > Writing > Remote Publishing and check the box next to ‘Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols.’

But there is no such option in the ‘writing’ category of ‘settings’. How to fix this?

I guess I need to purchase the domain to link my gravatar profile?

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

May I check the website you’re looking to connect please? The reason why I am asking is because Gravatars would be connected if there’s a WordPress.com site in use, so it would be good to retrace some steps there.

    Many thanks in advance.

I had some security issues earlier with the account and changed the email address associated with the account. There may be an issue there. Here is the website.

    https://clusterflux.wordpress.com

  • The instructions you mentioned at the beginning are not referring to WordPress.com sites, so I’m a little confused as to what exactly you are trying to achieve. The site clusterflux.wordpress.com shouldn’t give you any problems.

I am trying to link my gravatar profile, and I keep getting this error message.

Could you let me know where exactly are you clicking where you see this message? What URL are you visiting?

Oh you know you are completely correct. This is a gravatar functionality problem more than a WordPress.com problem I guess.

The problem happens on the gravatar website specifically but the solution I found on forums suggested to change the WordPress.com settings so I assumed it was something I should bring up with WordPress.com and I thought the 2 of the sites worked together.

    I was at the

    verified services

option on gravatar and saw WordPress as an option to verify. Choosing that, I’m taken to a login page for WordPress and I enter in my website address and my username/password and then it kicks to the error when I submit. I would upload pics but I’m not able to.

I guess I could bother gravatar about this and see if they know why it isn’t verifying the connection. I mean, I log into gravatar with my WordPress credentials sometimes so I’m sorry I got confused.

  • Hello there,

Please do reach out here: https://en.gravatar.com/support/ as to why that connection doesn’t seem to be happening.

You can also share a screenshot via Dropbox or https://snipboard.io/ and we can also continue to look for clues :)

I hope this helps so far.

The gravatar website is pretty worthless for support. Just a FAQ and then a question search generation function. No way to contact them and none of the following keywords return anything that helps:
verified services, WordPress, link WordPress account, XML-RPC API, blog
I don’t know how to get help from the gravatar website.

I pretty sure Gravatar is the problem and I don’t know how to get help. Not that is your problem but now Gravatar isn’t uploading pictures. :[

  • Hi there,

Have you tried to upload while under a different browser. I want to rule out this being a browser-related issue.

    Thanks,

The uploading photos might have been wrong. I think it might have been just rearranging the photos so I couldn’t see the last uploaded one. Now it works again.

Thanks for the update! Was there anything else we can help with?

  • Unknown's avatar

Not really. I guess it will remain a mystery for the time being as to why Gravatar is slacking. Not your problem.

On a positive note, I really appreciate the help from WordPress.com on giving me a creative sandbox to build my independent project(s). It’s the only website provider I could find that didn’t charge for there services upfront. I hope I can return the favor by investing again sometime but money is tight and I’m currently unemployed so I won’t be “playing” with money anytime soon. I just hope this gives me some sort of financial return because I’ve spent quite a lot of hours working to have something to show for my music/writing endeavors.

But thanks for being available to shoot the spit.

Finally. If you can link this to something it would help educate on how to get support for your related site. This is the email of the support department at Gravatar and they don’t list it very easily on there website. I also found this:

    https://www.liveagent.com/directory/gravatar-help-desk-contacts/

It’s a completely different company but they went out of there way to list a lot of dead links to Gravatar. I should get an answer eventually I suppose.
