Failed! Two step security

  • Unknown's avatar

Two step security doesn’t match I enabled two step security on my account yesterday. Today I tried to disable it as it won’t let me login to wordpress on iPad. I go and try to enter one of the 10 numbers I was given. All fail to match! I want to disable the two step security it’s a fail!

My iPad has been in my hands all this while. And no one knows about my blog. Help me disable this feature. It’s not functional and I don’t want to be bugged down by something that’s experimental.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Also when I try to disable it – my browser tabs close automatically!

If you cannot disable then you can fill out the form here https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and our account recovery team will get back to you by email so you can discuss the options in private.

Hi, as I am unable to log in to my first WordPress account and I have to log in to an existing WordPress account in order to start a new forum thread, I had to create a temporary one but the account I am having problems with is http://faithissubstance.wordpress.com/

What happened is I registered for the two step authentication process but not knowing that I had already finished the entire set-up, I deleted the Google Authenticator app from my phone because I thought I would have no need for it. Now I am unable to access my account because it keeps asking for my authentication code but even when I re-download Google Authenticator I am unable to enter in any key as I am not even logged into my account.

I’m hoping that one of the Happiness Engineers can send me a unique, single-use access code to the email address associated to that account to unlock it, as I saw on another closed forum that that was done for quite a few people who committed the same blunder that I did! Please help! Thank you so much!

I don’t have my two step authentication number with me . Please help me here to stop this security on my device so I can reset it. Did it anywhere say to keep the authentication code safe and I will need it again? I deleted the app right away after using it! It’s rather disturbing for me right now. Getting outcasted from my own account? It’s been over 24 hours I need to get this done asap! How about calling me on my phone number with which I enabled security?

All 10 numbers that I was given – I copied and pasted and now none of them match! What am I to do now ?

I’m trying to put details there to reset the google authentication code but nothing here is working.

I’ve tagged this thread for staff attention.

  • Hi @piaadored – You need to generate an application-specific password for your iPad. Go here:
    https://wordpress.com/settings/security/

There, click generate password under Application Passwords, and when you log into the app, enter that generated password as your password.

If you would like to disable two-step, please go here:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/security/

    2) Click on the “Generate Backup Codes” button and print a copy of your backup codes. If you do not see the backup codes please ensure that the window they appear in was not blocked by your browser.

    3) Once you have printed your codes, click on the “Disable” button next to the status under Two Step Authentication.

    4) At the prompt, enter the first code from your list of backup codes and click the “Disable” button.

You should now see that Two Step Authorization is disabled on your account.

If you’re currently locked out of your account, please let me know, and I’ll send you an email about this.

    @emmziepok – I’ve sent you an email.

Hi there. Don’t I have to enter a previous backup code to generate a new one?
I entered the old codes I have and it doesn’t match! That’s the only time I generated code….. It’s been less than a week. You have to suggest me a better way here.

  • Ok, I’m sending you an email about this, so we can figure it out.
