Failing to upload an animated gif
-
Hi, I am trying to upload an animated gif. It has a size of 8.5 mb. Previously I have uploaded an animated gif with a size of 15 mb and it uploaded with no error. But this new image just won’t upload. WordPress gives the following error ‘Post-processing of the image failed likely because the server is busy or does not have enough resources. Uploading a smaller image may help. Suggested maximum size is 2500 pixels.’ My image has a resolution of 1440×810, so I am already within the accepted maximum size.
Can I get some help please?
Best Regards.

Hello there,
Could you please confirm your site URL? This sounds like a WordPress.org issue.

Hi, so I resized the gif even further down to a size of 1.25 mb and a resolution of 599×397, and it still won’t upload, throwing the same error again. Have I reached a limit of some kind on my free account?
-
I have scoured this forum for related threads and it seems in most cases this happens on a .org site. Since we have cleared that yours is not, how about clearing your browser cache. Please let me know if it helps as it is totally trial and error. In the meantime., let us tag this for staff, while we look for more fixes.

Yeah, it seems that does not work. Someone mentioned uploading the file directly on the media page. Try that as well if you have not yet.

Hello there,
Are you able to tell me the file name please so that we can cross reference this with the media library.
Also, are you able to share the file via Dropbox/Drive so that we can attempt an upload as well.
Many thanks.

Hi, here are the file links. I can’t upload any one of them. When I drag and drop on the media page the upload bar fills instantly and after a while give that error which I have mentioned before.

Thanks for doing all that!
I was able to upload those gifs successfully to your media library without any errors:
https://wordpress.com/media/halcyonanimation.wordpress.com
Can you confirm those are there for you now?
It sounds like it might be an issue with your browser or internet connection – or it might have been an isolated incident. If you see this happen again (or if you want to try to upload those same images again) when uploading, check your browser console to see what specific errors you’re getting. Here’s a guide on how to open the JavaScript console in other browsers:
http://webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/8525/how-to-open-the-javascript-console-in-different-browsersIf you can expand and note any errors you see there that will help us greatly in trying to narrow down the problem.
Otherwise, you should be set with those three images now. Let us know if you have any questions or need help with anything else.

Thank you for uploading those images to my media library.
So, to find a fix for the issue I tried to upload the file again and checked the console and found errors.

I checked and found that I can upload the same image to Google drive successfully, but not in WordPress’ media library.

Hello there,
Many thanks for getting back to us and providing the error message.
The error
failed to load resource: net::ERR_HTTP2_PING_FAILEDsuggests that there’s something a miss with the uploading stage. Can you tell me the answer to the following please:
1. Are there any adblockers in use on the browser?
2. Does this happen in WP Admin view, or whilst in WordPress.com?
3. If you were to rename the file, and attempt an upload, does it upload? Many thanks in advance.
-
1. I haven’t added any extensions to Chrome. I kept it like that as I perform online transaction with this browser.
2. I upload from this link. ‘https://halcyonanimation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php’. It fails regardless of whether I drag or drop the file or use the select files button.
3. I tried that before, thinking renaming might help but it didn’t. Even now I tried it again but it didn’t work.
I checked to see if I can upload another image with the same browser and it successfully did. It was a 35kb png.

Thanks for all the details.
It seems that you’re working from WP-admin. Can you confirm that you’re getting the same error when trying to upload it directly here? https://wordpress.com/media/halcyonanimation.wordpress.com.
Also, could you try another browser and see if that works?
-
So, following your suggestion, I uploaded the same image through your link with the same browser and I could upload it successfully.
I wonder what was wrong before.
Thanks for the support.
-
I might have said too soon. The problematic image uploaded fine but a new one is giving the same trouble again.
-
Thanks for confirming. To further isolate the issue, have you tried uploading via a different browser with the same results?
-
The first three images couldn’t be uploaded by either Chrome or Internet Explorer. But with this new image I tried uploading with Internet Explorer and it was successful.
-
Hi there,
You mentioned Internet Explorer and that made me think that you might be using an older version of Windows that doesn’t support the latest version of Chrome.
Can you please let me know what version of Windows are you using? Also, what version of Chrome you’re running?
