failure in pasting text in the admin page in dashoard
-
I am trying to paste a piece of text in dashboard and suddenly it doesn’t work. At first I used a copied post, this worked. I deleted the elements I did not need and tried to past a new piece of work in place. It simply does not appear. What did I do wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Is this still something that you’re having problems with, or has it cleared up? If it’s still a problem, could you let me know what browser you were using and if it is happening if any others too? I’m trying to track down what might be causing this, as I haven’t been able to replicate it on your site quite yet.
Thanks so much for your help!

Hi amightywp
I was waiting for your reply. And yes I tried again just now and it still doesn’t work. In the lower left corner of the post concerned (concept 21 july) on the admin page is a little “p’, maybe that means something to you? I have a friend in Holland (currently I am in Greece) who has the same problem apparently. He uses Internet Explorer and I am working on a MacAir with Safari for a browser. You say that you are trying to replicate it on my site. Does that mean you can’ t replicate the failure and that everything works on your end? Did you try to paste a piece of text in my post? I am curious about that. Please keep on looking! Because I write a post almost every day and I hate falling behind! This occurrence is the first one ever in almost five years that I am a subscriber. Hoping to hear from you soon!!
With kind regards,

Thanks for getting back to me! While I still cannot replicate anything, we’ve actually heard from a few additional people and have discovered that pasting works, however there is a weird secondary bug that is causing it to look like pasting is broken.
The bug is that there is a lot of blank white space pre-populated in the visual editor on your new post. It doesn’t show up if you post, but you can’t delete it when you’re writing your post. If you scroll down, you should see your cursor. Can you check to see if that’s what’s happening and if you can paste there? I’d like to make sure that it’s the same bug!
Plus, no matter what you should be able to paste into and compose with the text editor. Once there is content in your post from the text editor you should be able to compose using the visual editor!
Thanks again!

I cannot even scroll down. And when i try to type text in a whole new post: nothing happens at all. The cursor stays where it is and no text appears. This is very annoying! Can’t you get into my admin page with my username and password and look for yourself? This is going nowhere i’m afraid!

Hello, anyone there?! You did not react on my last cry-out! I still cannot paste ready-made text (in pages) in my admin editor or what’s it called! Right now I have to type it while i am on line. I don’t want that. Any thoughts, preferably solutions, on this and no questions please if possible?

I apologize, I was out of the office for the last couple of days.
In regards to the problem which you have been facing with your compose window, in the intervening time our developers released a fix for the issue and you should now be able to type and copy/paste in your compose window as normal.
Again, I apologize for the delay in getting back to you!

OK, I’m sorry to hear that. I realize you don’t want to answer any additional questions, however everything is working OK when I logged in and tested things (I left a Test post as a Draft this most recent time I tested).
When you say that you cannot copy/paste, are you pasting from some third party word processor such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, etc? If so, are you making sure to paste using the “Paste as Text” button?
Also, is this issue happening across all browsers or just a single one?

I’ll try to explain what I see in the compose window: I select and copy a text in pages (I only work with Safari) and go to the compose window. I put the cursor most upper left and then I paste. Unlike what happened in the “good old days” no text appears and what does happen is that the cursor jumps a line up and becomes smaller and nothing happens still! I cannot think of anything to cut around, or through for that matter, this phenomenon! So the problem is not” “typing text” now in the compose window, but: “copy/paste text” into the compose window. Again: I only use Safari and Pages on a MacAir. Had to much trouble with the others like Firefox for instance. Besides: it always functioned perfectly with this configuration, until recently!
Is this helpful for you to help me?

Apple’s Pages app is indeed one of the types of word processing programs which runs in to problems with the Visual Editor. When you copy your text, along with the text comes quite a bit of additional code that you don’t necessarily see. When the code is pasted in to the visual editor, it can break your entire site.
The article which I linked to before talks about how the various browsers handle this code differently, however Chrome seems to work the best. If you find that even that is not working well, you can paste using the “Paste as Plain Text” button:
This should allow you to insert your content directly without all of the code being attached.

Apparently your last advice works! Thanks! Although I find it peculiar that after five years of pasting Pages directly into the compose window “without a worry in the world” WITHOUT using this button, suddenly is not possible anymore, this is odd and unsatisfying. But, hey, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, my mother always says (she still does). Thanks for your assistance.
