Failure to access dashboard

  • Unknown's avatar

I am having problems getting to my dashboard and comments: I get a message “The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading” from Firefox. I checked loading one or two other pages, facebook, yahoo, whatever, just to check for problems my end, and have no problem with that. Have you any idea what could be causing this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Let me guess: you’re in the Uk. Many people are reporting similar problems today. It’s because ISPs are randomly blocking parts of WordPress in a misguided attempt to comply with the new porn regulations. Call your ISP and ask them to whitelist WordPress.com.

I have hit this problem, began March 11 in the morning UK time all of a sudden. Will see if your solution works. Otherwise might have to try yet another browser! Personally feel WordPress need to be flagging this up somewhere as it could be an enormous issue for lots of people.

I have been having this problem as well. I was using Google chrome, read on here somewhere to try Safari which initially worked, but now is playing up as well grrrrrr.

I have rung my ISP this morning and the query has been escalated to their network guys. It may take up to 72 hrs for them to get back to me.

Thanks for posting the link raincoaster. I hope that the content that is being hosted on WP which is causing the problem can be found and removed. Not sure why users are being left to contact their ISPs when the problem is with WP but hey, doing my bit.

This bug-bear has returned yet again on my full blogging day – 3rd time in 8 months!! It’s never been this bad – a complete inaccessibility.
IS THERE NO WAY WP CAN APPLY PRESSURE UK ISPs DIRECT AT CEO LEVEL? (am on talktalk)

Somehow missed stick thread on ISPs blocking WP but here’s what Talktalk support told me:

Their man in India had NOT HEARD OF WordPress!!! So informed him the problems are identical to last July & Nov when they blocked porn sites and thereby took down our WP blogs.

45 mins later he confirmed they are not blocking WordPress!! Am far from from convinced!

This isn’t WordPress’s fault, but sloppy implementation of the blocking system. I’m with BT and their site is still promising some sort of way to unblock ‘coming soon’! There are also calls for compensation on their site FAQ which they are wriggling out of as well. I only have the issue with Firefox, Safari is working (but you can’t upload photos using Safari anyway). My brother tried WordPress and Firefox through his ISP and it was not blocked.

They are blocking because of content on WP. WP needs to monitor their stuff so that they catch it before it gets to this stage. This is not a one-sided issue.

ladylabasque – ah, didn’t realise that. I thought WP was relatively free of dubious sites, unlike many other similar providers!

    Thank you all.

I am still having problems with talktalk. On Saturday I go home to btinternet, and will see how they do.

ladylabasque, I disagree. I have recently published a picture of a bare bottom- a painting by Boucher- and a bare nipple- Frederic Leighton. The law is an ass. There are better ways of making the internet safe for ten year olds, who can get round the restrictions, than by making it impossible for adults.
