fake email from wordpress?

I got an email yesterday through my website saying my website services with wordpress will expire that day if I don’t go to this website: https://saveonyourdomain.com/?web=susanwalden.com and renew for $75 for one year, $119 for 2 years ect . I paid as I got scared but I am wondering if its a fake as there is no way to respond or speak to customer service

Hi there, it looks like you created this account shortly before posting your question here.
However, your domain susanwalden.com is registered with GoDaddy.com, LLC and your site is hosted with Hostgater. Those are the people you should contact regarding any question you have regarding your domain or website.
“WordPress” is open source software that you download and install to create your site. It would not send you an “expiry notice” since it is free forever for you to use.
Just to clarify, this support forum assists users with free websites hosted on the WPcom platform. WPcom (where we are ) and WP are separate entities with different documentation and support forums. More information about the differences can be found here: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

Just in case you need an official “staff” voice in this situation…
Justjennifer has given you excellent advice. I would encourage you to contact your host and/or registrar directly to make sure that you do not have any outstanding bills. If you do not, you can safely ignore this email as a mistake or a scam.
In any case, that email is NOT from WordPress.com.
