fake password reset email
-
I just got an email “from” wordpress.com that a password reset for my blog was attempted. The email showed a picture of me and an id name used by someone else. So I could post this question here, I created a userid for this website – I haven’t had one before. I have >not< clicked on either the “reset password” button or the link in the email. The link in the email starts https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action= and the userid that is >not< mine is e11enm. How has my photo been connected with that userid via WordPress? And what should I do to disentangle this? Thank you.

hmm. Normally I would say not to worry about it, so long as you don’t click the links there is no danger. But there have been a couple of other problems similar to yours in the forum over the last couple of days so I’m going to mark this for staff attention, just so they are aware.

@elllenelllen there still probably isn’t any danger for you so don’t lose any sleep over it. Just want the Automattic folks to know if there happens to be a pretty legit looking phishing scam going on.

Hi there!
It looks like you may have more than one WordPress.com account.
If you’re certain the account e11enm is not yours, or if you don’t plan to use that account again. You can simply ignore the email.
If you’re still concerned about this account, please email help-at-wordpress.com from the email address the password reset email was sent to, or respond directly to the password reset email.
