False accounts

  • Unknown's avatar

I wanted to register a new blog but it appears to be taken by someone trying to scam people into using them to design the site. When I went to the website to see if I could contact the person who has the account, their website has a suspension notice. I’ve included the info below.

Does anyone know if there is any way at all to get access to that name if it’s been set up by a fake account holder… if not, then that’s fine but I wanted to exhaust all avenues before I found an alternative.

    Info on the website:

This Site has been suspended for breaching Zymic’s hosting T.O.S.

If you are the owner of this website,
Please ask for a member of the Zymic Abuse Team on Zymic IRC

    Hi there,
This is the WordPress.COM support forum. You need to contact Zymic support for help with that site because it is not hosted by WordPress.COM.

    Thanks Timethief,
I might not have been clear. When I searched for a blog name that I wanted on WordPress it appears that someone has already taken it and put an ‘ad’ for want of a better term saying if I want the blog I have to go through them to design it. When I got to the webpage that they had as their contact I got the Zymic error message. So I wanted to know if a blog page is being ‘held’ in this way but you can’t get in touch with the owner what options there are. I guess it’s similar to buying a domain name and selling it to whomever wants it. I want the blog name but it’s currently being ‘held’. Hope that explains things a bit clearer?

When I searched for a blog name that I wanted on WordPress it appears that someone has already taken it

There is no expiration date on blogs unused, reserved or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog via a contact form or commenting, then providing the are agreeable there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

If you are not successful, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Also note that even if the URL is deleted you cannot register it. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

Fabulous! I tried searching for ‘fake accounts’ in the search engine but didn’t get this info. Appreciate the help. That answers my question. Thank you :)

Though I know the answer isn’t the one you wanted to read, you’re welcome.

That’s ok, once I saw it was gone I’d figured this would be the answer. I didn’t know if you owned the domain name it doesn’t matter so much what the WordPress site was set up as so that’s a plus as I already own the domain name :)
    Cheers
