False instruction to renew domain and double charge

  • Unknown's avatar

You have falsely informed me by mail that my registered domain requires renewal, which most unfortunately I have done (invoice-ID 88511708). You have sent this instruction despite the fact, that you had already charged me with an automatic renewal (invoice-ID 88507845).

Can you cancel the unnecessary renewal and refund the money you have acquired with these misleading practices? In the payment UI I can only cancel the domain registration, which I do not intend to do. I absolutely intend to retain the domain.

Also, your “contact support by e-mail” does not work – the button remains inactive.

And please fix the misleading domain renewal e-mail – this is extremely irritating.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this. I checked and can confirm that you received an automated email mentioning that your domain will expire in 30 days despite your Personal Plan and domain registration auto-renewed that same day. In that email, it should have also stated the following:

If your WordPress.com subscription is set to automatically renew, we will attempt to renew your domain name before expiration. If we are unable to do so, or you do not have your WordPress.com subscription set to automatically renew, you will have to manually renew the domain name to prevent any service disruption.

Please confirm if that isn’t the message you received. However, I can understand receiving that email on the same day as the autorenewal can make it appear that there is a need to repurchase the domain. Therefore, I processed the refund for you, and it will take 7-10 days for the refund to reflect on your bank statement. That extra purchase added a year to your domain registration, so it will expire on 2/26. That additional year will be on us.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!
