False mail
-
Hi,
I have the past week got 5-7 e-mails claiming they are from WordPress. Its people that claim they started to follow my blog.
The reason I think that theses e-mails are false is because the text that tells me who the sender is starts and end with ” and all other e-mails I get from WordPress doesn’t.I don’t know if this is something to get worried about or if it’s just to delete them and forgot about them?
BR,
LisaBelow is an exempel:
(email visible only to moderators and staff) is now following To Brussels and beyond! – Livet går vidare
(email visible only to moderators and staff) just started following you at http://brysselkakan.wordpress.com. They will receive an email every time you publish a post. Congratulations.

Thanks for flying with WordPress.comThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sounds like a normal follow email to me – when someone follows your blog – the notice comes from WordPress.COM not the person that followed your blog – you may delete them if you want
-
Yes, I know that WordPress notice me when someone like to follow my blog but I still think that this are false. The e-mail addresses are, for me, made up:
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
and I’ve got like 5 more of them.
What make me react is also that the text in the e-mail I get doesn’t look like normal e-mails from WordPress:
“To Brussels and beyond! – Livet går vidare” [(email visible only to moderators and staff)]
It’s the ” I react upon.Of course I can delete these e-mails but can I delete these persons to follow me? Can find where if so.

Sorry, the e-mail addresses was taken away when publiced, but the name is like lynnetteyo, milneshu, mintzerlo and bakospeixi and they all using outlook.com

Might also be spam followers –
No you can’t delete them
Just in case I have flagged this for staff attention – save the email’s for the time being in case the staff want you to forward the email’s to them – the staff can also see the redacted emails you posted above
Email address are normally redacted in the forum to prevent spam bots from harvesting the email addresses and to provide a bit more security

A lot of spammers started to follow my blog, too. They use e-mail adresses like quoted above in this topic.
Why don’t follow-up forms insert captchas to prevent spams?? I suppose these subscritpions got to be confirmed by links on the e-mail inbox, right?
The staff could also to force the filling of a short follower profile to discourage automatic spammers.
How can I suggest these hints to staff?

How can I suggest these hints to staff?
Start a new thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1
There is a drop down for where to post the thread to – pick the “Ideas” – that will put your suggestion in the ideas forum section for the staff to look at
A note on captchas – they can be beaten by automated systems and are a major form of annoyance to real users
-
There are several kinds of Captchas. The ideal is that works on answering logic questions like “The image above is of a…”, very hard to be overwhelmed by autospammers.
About the annoyance to real users – these captchas could be inserted only in certain cases, like confirming subscription. In this case, it would be once for all.
Thanx for hints!

I don’t see anything unusual about these emails. They sound like the normal notifications we send out when someone new is following your blog.

OK, I then have to hope that these person have no unlegal intentions. I’m still a little bit worried: The e-mail addresses might look normal if you live in a English speaking country but I’m living in Sweden and writing my blog in Swedish so for mer these e-mail addresses looks like fake once. And since they all arrived during a couple of days and no unnormal activity (the same amount of vistitors as usually) apperaed on my blog these days I will keep on feeling a little worried for a while.
