False malware alerts from Chrome?

  • Unknown's avatar

I looked and couldn’t see anything particularly close to this in the forum yet, but if there’s a thread or two on it, please point me there.

About three times over the past nine months, people have told me that Chrome has alerted them that I’ve got malware running on my blog. Today someone sent me the Chrome alert saying that “content from bigbrassblog.com a known malware distributor has been inserted into this page.”

I’ve checked Google’s malware and my site comes up clean. I ran a separate malware assessment with static and dynamic checking and it comes up clean as well.

What gives? I had a nasty comment on my Web of Trust page due to this for a while as well, although it’s gone now.

    Help please!

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Chrome has done this to a lot of blogs recently, but it’s not entirely without cause. In many cases the blogs are hotlinking content from sites that may themselves have issues. If that’s the case with you, don’t hotlink images. Mind you, in many cases the bloggers are not doing anything wrong and Chrome has wrongly flagged them.
