false messages sent from my site to my contacts
-
My contacts have been false messages from my site. How do I stop it? When they click on the link, they get advertising. Has someone hacked into my contacts? How can I stop this & prevent future problems?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are Posts being generated that you did not write yourself?
Is the email you mention the notice of a new Post being published?
See below for general information and steps to take
Hacked Sites
The only “hacked” sites I have seen here have been people getting the password somehow to a site so you do want to be careful how you log in and use a tough password.
You should also check to make sure that someone has not added a new user to your site. Problems have also happened when there was more than one Admin. and an Admin left on less than graceful terms.
Dashboard >> Users
Many times a users email is hacked or the password guessed and the email account is used to get access by requesting a password reset – you need to change your email password and make sure they nobody has been added to your email account.
You should also run a virus check on you PC to make sure your PC does not have a security issue that has compromised your email or WordPress.COM log-in information (also your bank etc. if you do online banking or retirement accounts)
There have also been a few Posts on “hacked” sites and it was because someone got the Post by Email address and using the Post by Email to send in new Posts, if you have Post by email disable the Post by Email and regenerate the address. Spammers have scripts the generate email addresses and they sometimes can get a valid address for a Post by Email address.
If you are really concerned you could as the staff to look at your site: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
You could also use a secure log-in in case you are on an unsecured link: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

Thanks
Look carefully for extra users, turn off Post by email & change the password for your blog and email – see above for more info
I have also flagged this for staff attention

Is there any mroe information you can provide on this situation? What exactly did these “messages” say? Did they arrive via email? Was it a pop up on the screen?

Hi
This is from a friend who received the message.
About your other email about the wordpress message I got. In the subject it was From: Norma King Koi and I’ve just realised that the sender was Norma King Koi, not your usual Norma KK. This is the link
http://wordpress.uwharrietech.com/greatest.php?Norma_King_Koi
How did they get my full name?

Without looking at the email, this is hard to troubleshoot.
If you could, forwarding the email to help@wordpress.com would be a big help.

Hello,
Below is the fake message. Not all the recipients are contacts on my WordPress site & some are old names that aren’t in my present email contact list & haven’t been on my contact list for up to 4 yrs.
How did they get such addresses? It also says it was sent from an iPhone & I don’t have an iPhone..
Norma

If I had to guess, I’m suspicious that your email got hacked into somehow. That happened recently to a friend. We all got junk spam sent from him. In his case, it was spyware on his computer.

Ok, I have been religiously scanning.
How did they get email addresses that aren’t in my address book & my full name?
I will keep checking everything regularly.

got a message that was spam from a friend – said it was sent from his iPhone (he does not have an iPhone) – he did some research and not all the contacts were in his address book – the return was spoofed – looked to have came from a politician in Texas (he does not live in Texas, actually lives about as far from Texas as you can get and still be in the Continental US)
