False reporting of objectionable material?

I am building a blog to use to promote an online business. It was strongly suggested in a forum related to that business that I get a paid hosting site and put my blog there in order to stop a competitor from falsely reporting ‘objectionable’ content on my blog just to eliminate me as a competitor, reasoning that if my blog is on my own site rather than here at WordPress.com that competitors really couldn’t touch me. How easy would it be for a competitor to stop me by falsely reporting objectionable material on my blog? Is there anything that I can do here to deal with that or is it really that good of an idea to use WordPress on my own site hosted by somebody like Bluehost or Gator or Dreamhost?

  • All complaints and reports about WordPress.com blogs are read and investigated by humans. We’re well aware that some people make false reports so we don’t take them at face value.
