"Fancy a job?" page
-
When I first open the WordPress.com (Desktop app), and try to navigate to My Site, the following page comes up. Should I be concerned?
-
Hmmm. I can’t see that link. Could you send a screenshot? You’d be welcome to upload it to your media library, or to snipboard.io or a similar service.

Thanks!
It looks odd, we’ll check this with our app developers and get back to you when we have some more information. -
Did you already check your browser for malware because I found several forms of malware and scam which use a “Fancy a job?” to lure you in their trap.

Where does that link take you to? You should be able to copy the link with a right click.

P.S. Just to clarify, I can no longer access the page directly by going to http://127.0.0.1:41050/desktop/hey.html . Connection refused.

“127.0. 0.1 is the loopback Internet protocol (IP) address also referred to as the localhost. The address is used to establish an IP connection to the same machine or computer being used by the end-user.”
This means it is a local file or malware. -

@pj2vaac thanks for confirming. I got some more info from our developers and it seems that you’re not the first person that experienced this issue.
We are currently tracking what’s causing it so, if you could tell us some more details, I’ll be very grateful. What OS version and app version are you on?
If you are not using the latest, could they try to see if you are still experiencing the bug with the latest stable release? (v5.0.0)
Thank you! -
I’m running Windows 10 version 1909 (installed 12/7/2019), and the download I installed (2/26/2020) was wordpress.com-win32-setup-5.0.0.exe .
I haven’t experienced the bug since 1-Mar.

The “Fancy a job” page came up again. The link it wants you to click appears to go to https://automattic.com/work-with-us/ .
-
I downloaded the app while on the wordpress site, signing up for the Personal service. I don’t remember what the download page looked like. I could try a de- & re-install, if it’s helpful.
The issue does not occur when I open https://glrecords.org directly, then click My Site.
It occurs only when I open the desktop app. The app comes up displaying the web page (preseumably the location at last close). When I click < to progress back to My Site, then the “Fancy a Job?” page appears. As noted on the development page linked 3 posts earlier, the Fancy page blocks access to My Site. (To get to My Site, I have to first directly open the web page.)

Data point: The file I used for the Windows app install, wordpress.com-win32-setup-5.0.0.exe, has the same number of bytes, 155 MB (162,932,600 bytes), as the same file dowloaded today. So I think I got the correct file.
