FAQ Theme on WordPress.com
-
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get the FAQ theme that is currently at http://faq.wordpress.com. If wordpress doesn’t distribute it, does anyone have a theme that works kinda of like a FAQ?
-
I would imagine with CSS you could create something extremely similar, but nothing is released right now.

Thanks Trent and Kristen for your response. I’m not familiar with sandbox but i’ll research it a bit more. Is there someone I could pay to create it and open source it?
Thanks,
Nitesh -
if anyone reading this is interested in creating this theme please send me an email at nitesher at yahoo.com.

My wp site is a css customized sandbox theme. I can do it for u but i’d rather you find out if its ok first. I dont know if wordpress uses that as some type of branding or not. I know it is the design of the old wordpress.org site thats not up anymore.. so most likely.. they wont care

Cool, Kristen…send me an email when you get a chance.
I don’t want to use any of WP branding, etc. I was hoping the structure could be something like this:
Custom Header
Text Box
Categories
Search
Recent Faq Entries | Popular Faq entriesand the sub page w/o any WP branding.
I’ll wait for Trent or another WP moderator to comment to make sure we are doing anything wrong.
Thanks,

Nitesh,
Send an email tomorrow morning to support at this domain and ask them if it would be OK to ‘clone’ the theme. It wouldn’t be a big deal, but they might want you to change the structure a little more so it would be custom to you, but I doubt if it would be a big deal. It would also require you to get the CSS upgrade, but if you get in touch with Kristen, she will be able to help you with that as well if she is doing the CSS for you!

thanks Trent. I just sent an email to support.
Kristen, if you have time today, I can paypal the money to you but we won’t release it until we get confirmation from WP. Drop me an email with your IM info, etc.
Thanks,

You’re going to have a hard time arguing a centred fixed-width theme with Georgia and a dropshadow is unique to the wordpress.com FAQ (though it’s a bit 2004, granted). What are you going to do if somebody does copy it? Nuke their blog?

Absolutely. It was good of Nitesh to ask, though. Most people just go ahead and rip the things.

Thanks guys…I understand. I hope you don’t mind, though, if I use your FAQ for inspiration on how I may customize a blog to suit our needs.
Thanks,

Hi,
I just signed up on wordpress.com, and I haven’t even started a blog here yet. So, basically I know nothing about nothing — as far as the wordpress capabilities — so that’s the caveat.
What I’m about to say may be (and probably is) totally ignorant.
I wonder if creating a FAQ would be as simple as creating a separate page that would essentially be a collection of blog posts, the titles of which would be the questions and the posts the answers.
There is archive widget. Since the titles all have URLs, a link for each could link back to the FAQ page.
I’m just talking out my behind, but this seems akin to
How to write a book.Thoughts?
Comments?
Am I way in left field?

Wow, thanks tshombe…this is working. http://nitesher.wordpress.com. I’m still trying to figure out how I can move things (i.e. – search box). any suggestions would be awesome.
Thanks,
Nitesh -
Hi Nitesh,
I’m really glad that helped!
It does look good on your blog (though in your post above, your URL doesn’t work because you linked the period at the end of it).
As for moving certain items, I know they can be moved (See the different options for search box location on
the screen shots of the Sandbox Theme, for exaqmple), but you’ll have to wait until someone with more experience answers (or when I start my first WordPress.com blog and play around with it myself)!Good luck to you, and don’t forget to have fun!
Peace,
Tshombé
