Fastmail domain with wordpress.com blog
-
Hi, I don’t currently have a WordPress.com account but I am considering getting one. I use Fastmail.fm as my email provider, but they also have a basic website hosting feature. If you sign up as (email visible only to moderators and staff) then you can have http://example.fastmail.fm/ as a basic website. What I want to do is host a WordPress.com blog at an address like that. I found a page on Fastmail’s wiki about doing this with Blogger, but that doesn’t seem to be possible anymore from Blogger’s end. The link to the page on their wiki is http://wiki.fastmail.fm/index.php?title=Blogging. Does anyone know if this sort of this is possible with WordPress.com if I pay the $17 or whatever to have domain mapping?

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

I doubt that it is possible, since you would have to have access to the TLD (top level domain) at fastmail (http://fastmail.fm/) in order to set it up so that the example subdomain had the proper cname record.
I think you need to run this directly past staff here at http://en.wordpress.com/contact/ but I don’t think it is possible.
You can have domain mapping here and purchase a domain through wordpress.COM, and then use Google Apps for Webmasters to have a custom email address tied to your new domain.

Thank-you Sacred, I was afraid someone would say that. :-( I know about getting a domain through WordPress, but I reeeaally like the url I have with Fastmail.fm so I will contact the WordPress staff later tonight, but I am guessing that they’ll probably give me the same answer as you did. I appreciate your time though, cheers.
