Fatal error

I am trying to sort out a blog for my friend, however I am unable to login so had to use my details instead. It is coming up with this message
“Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_update_data() in /web/sites/user/0/165/195152/public/www/wp-admin/menu.php on line 34”. It happened last night after I tried to click on upgrade but it didn’t work, I thought it was a server problem so waited until today but found it was still thereSomeone please help I don’t know what to do, as I feel like he might have lost all the progress made with the blog before I took over to finish it
