Fatal Error on Website Caused By Plugin – Unable to Access Anything

  • Unknown's avatar

I had a plugin cause a fatal error on my WP website. When I log into WordPress, my website is gone and I can no longer log in to access the dashboard. Recovery mode is off, and I cannot recover it that way either. My host also says my domain is no longer pointed at their hosting, and they won’t help me. I’ve tried doing tutorials online to get into my website by using phpmyadmin and modifying FTP files but my WP files don’t even show up in there now, either!

I received the following email from WordPress (and was still not able to recover my website):

    Howdy!

Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, The GDPR Framework.

First, visit your website [link redacted by staff] and check for any visible issues.

Please contact your host for assistance with investigating this issue further.

If your site appears broken and you can’t access your dashboard normally, WordPress now has a special “recovery mode”. This lets you safely login to your dashboard and investigate further.

To keep your site safe, this link will expire in 1 day. Don’t worry about that, though: a new link will be emailed to you if the error occurs again after it expires.

When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
    WordPress version 5.8.2
Current theme: Hello Elementor (version 2.3.1)
Current plugin: The GDPR Framework (version 1.0.47)
    PHP version 7.3.33

Please help me! I need my website back!

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider.

Please contact support for the plugin you’re using directly for help with this.

For general help with the version of WordPress you’re using, you can ask the WordPress.org community over at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Also note that the links from the email you pasted above include a secret key that allows someone direct access to your site’s dashboard. Please don’t share that type of information in any public forum. I’ve redacted the links from your post above.
