Favicon Question
-
To get a favicon (URL Icon) does my wordpress page need to be hosted on another server? I bought the domain name for my site through WordPress and in the dashboard under appearance the options I have are: Themes, widgets, menus, theme options, background, header, custom design, ipad, extras. I hope this helps and if anyone out there can help I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

At wordpress.com they are called blavatars and this support document explains how to upload your own.
-
I uploaded my own, but I’m still not seeing the picture I uploaded show up besides the web address… Can you check and verify that you are still seeing the W for wordpress and not the microphone… http://www.gamblersradionetwork.com
Thanks so much

Did you make the image 128px x 128px as suggested? Also, what file type did you save it in? I’ve had the best luck with PNG rather than JPG or GIF.
-
The image is a 126×126 png and it is still not coming up on the website. Its weird because when I’m logged into my dashboard it is the logo in between the menu names blogs and info but it is not showing up in my web address at gamblersradionetwork.com … Any other options here?
-
I’m seeing a custom blavatar on your site, but I had to clear my browser cache to see it. Browser, especially IE, will hold onto cached favicons virtually for ever. Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then take another look.

I have four different computers and have cleared the cache out on all four and when I go to GamblersRadioNetwork.com I am still seeing the W for Word Press… But when I go to gamblersradionetwork.wordpress.com I am seeing the microphone… How can I get the microphone to show up on GamblersRadioNetwork? I really appreciate your help and I’m not trying to be a pain at all but this is really bothering me and want to get this fixed.

You might also review the TOS before you get too far along:
http://en.wordpress.com/tos/
http://wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/suspended-blogs/Also removing your footer is not allowed either
-
I am seeing a black & reddish blurry indescribable favicon/blavatar on GamblersRadioNetwork.com
I am seeing a wordpress W favicon on gamblersradionetwork.wordpress.com/
-
Auxclass the footer is at the bottom of the page on GamblersRadioNetwork and why would I have to read the TOS? Have I done something wrong?
Timethief… This is so weird I wonder what is going on. How are you seeing two blavatars and I’m seeing two other blavatars?
-
~~auxclass has politely informed you by posting links above of what follows.
In a nutshell no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM. You cannot have advertisers but you have created a page for them on your site.Having a domain makes zero difference to the foregoing
Also note this in the entry for the custom design upgrade.
May I remove the ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ credit in my site’s footer?
Although the Custom Design Upgrade certainly grants you the capability to hide the credit from your site’s footer, you are not permitted to do so. Even our VIP bloggers are required to maintain the credit. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions -
Timethief are you referring to the advertise with us page? If so, that page is going to just be text for people to read… no shopping cart or anything else…. Advertising payments will be done offline and for advertising space on my blogtalkradio show and not on the actual site… Will this be okay?
Also if I did want to have an e-commerce section, what is the way to go? Move the blog to another server?
-
Advertising of that sort is banned here, absolutely.
If you do want an ecommerce section, you will have to get independent hosting and move the blog.
-
So without any e-commerce transactions taking place on the site, just a page that says advertise with us with information listed is not allowed?
-
Advertising of that sort is banned here, absolutely.
The favicon issue can also be with your ISP. ISPs use invisible proxy servers to reduce bandwidth usage and to speed things up for their customers, and favicons can sometimes not update for several days to a week. It all depends on how often your ISP updates their caches.
-
-
If you ultimately want ecommerce and advertising, you may prefer to get independent hosting sooner rather than later.
-
If I had this much of a pain in the you know what just changing the favicon, what exactly does it take to move a wordpress page to an independent host? As you can see I’m not exactly Steve Jobs or Bill Gates.
-
It’s not such a big deal, actually. It’s fiddly at first, and to change the look, it can be a PIA, but it’s better to put the effort into a site that can do what you want rather than one that can’t.
