Favicon.ico option please
-
Is it conclusively not possible to change it if WordPress is hosting the blog?
It is conclusively not possible because we do not have access to the underlying theme files.
-
Please count my vote as well. It is sort of frustrating to find out that you cannot change the favicon even though you paid for a custom URL and custom CSS. :(
-
Would make sense to offer custom favicon to those that have bought a custom url.
Seems mean of wordpress not to.
-
Please…. please…please. We all need the Fav.icon option… could you get together, make a decision and make us all happy? :)))
-
There is a plugin at codex.wordpress.org
I modified it to allow users upload favicons themselves. I think WordPress.com Team can make it much better…

Yes WordPress
Please enable us to have our own Fav.icon, it seems strange that we can have our own domain names and then the wordpress W disappears when you do that anyway so that excuse of knowing it is a wordpress site is floored as there is wordpress branding at the bottom of everypage? It would be simple to apply me thinks!
Go on WordPress we love you anyway make us love you more!

I know wordpress can take it, so allow me to say that the new blog platform I’m playing with right now has this favicon option and it is pretty cool (viviti.com, for those who follow emily chang may have seen the link recently).

LOOKS LIKE WORDPRESS ARE LOOKING INTO THIS SO KEEP CHECKING FOR PROGRESS:
Hi,
Regarding the favicon, we are currently working on something, so stay tuned. Progress has certainly been made in this.
Best,

Good idea, but with a free blog wordpress.com still need some sort of representation and having the logo right next to the address bar sort of does it well without intruding you site design (there’s a link at the footer, but that’s unobtrusive).
Maybe have a custom favicon if you purchase the ‘custom css’ package?

Sorry if this has been commented already but it looks to me as if what is described here:
http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2008/12/02/go-get-a-blavatar/
solves our problem.
I have tried to upload an “.ico” file, that didnt work (silly me hadnt read the “jpg or png only” at the beginning); but the favicon I got from the cropped jpg is a decent one, although Im sure I could do better by chossing something with less colour or detail.
What do you think of the feature?
Can we close all the threads requesting favicons and stop harassing the staff about it now?
Hoooray! -
But…it doesn’t seem to work with pre-existing profile pictures. Do we have to re-upload our avatars? Cuz nothing is showing up on my blog except the URL and the big round W logo.

rain,
Try a forced reload (Ctr-F5), if that doesn’t work, clear your cache and reload your page. That should do it.

Mine took about 30 minutes to show up on my computer last night – or at least my first attempt did. The second one took a whole longer.
And can I give you guys a hint? Use a transparent background png. It just looks a heck of a lot better ;)
