FB likes on my posts go from 33 to 1 to 33 and then back to 1

What’s happening?
It is typical on certain posts to receive 30 + likes. I watched the “likes” increase steadily over the day and eventually the post received 33 likes, then all of a sudden, it went to 1 like. Then an hour later, back to 33 and this morning is back to 1 like.

Hopefully, you know that likes are not page view stats. They may make us feel warm and fuzzy but their value is only that which we choose to endow them with, as our posts can be liked in several locations such as the Reader, without the person even clicking into the post on the blog and creating a page view stat.

For me it’s the inconsistency that I found odd.
I just used a different browser and the blog showed receiving 41 likes.
For me, getting a read on FB likes tells me where readers are getting particular information and how it’s being shared.

I think this will prove to be a counter issue ie. the data is cached and will likely got up and down and rectify over time. But not to worry as Staff can set this straight for you. -
I’m afraid those numbers have ALWAYS been glitchy. I have a post that has had many, many Diggs, but the current widget shows only one. This is a long-standing issue not only with FB but with all quantitative widgets.

Hi there,
The number of likes on the official Facebook sharing button comes directly from Facebook — they report the number to us, and we display it on your blog. It’s possible that there’s a glitch in how Facebook is tracking or reporting those likes, but we don’t have control over that.
If this bothers you, you can go to Sharing > Settings in your dashboard and pick a different button style for your sharing buttons. Official buttons are the ones that show the number as reported by each service like Facebook. You can find out more about those settings here: Sharing
