Feature request: a universal icon font

    I would really like to see WordPress.com adopt or develop an icon font and make it available across all themes.

    I’ve used icon fonts on some sites to great effect in the past, but support is theme-dependent and patchy. WordPress even had some of its own icon fonts (like Genericons). In the newest themes, icon fonts seem top have fallen out of favour.

    Sophisticated icon fonts like FontAwesome and Icomoon allow for some amazing customisation options. Google offers free icon fonts Material Symbols and Material Icons. And WordPress has Genericons and Dashicons (although I think maybe they are no longer being actively developed).

    I’m aware that icon fonts are possible through the use of plug-ins, but I’d really like to see some native support.

    I actually tried to add this request to the ideas sub-forum, but it seems to be closed off to new posts? (all the threads are locked and there’s no Add new topic button).

    Hats off to you Happiness Engineers though. There’s some real doozies in these forums, and you guys always respond with such patience, politeness and a desire to understand and help. Good job and take care :-)
