Feature Request – Media Library Upload

    Hello,

I am a developer at KQED, a San Francisco PBS affiliate and I had a feature request from our team that would improve accessibility usage.

In the Media Library Upload section there is an <input> for Alternative Text. It has been our experience that the input sizing doesn’t allow our team to easily edit the text as it is restricted to a single line. Our suggestion would be that a resize-able <textarea> would be more appropriate here.

Another item in the Alternative Text which could be improved is a character counter for the Alternative Text Field. Many screen readers limit to 125 characters so a character count while editing Alternative Text would help conforming to screen reader requirements thus improving accessibility.

    Thank you

  • Hi there,

Just to clarify, is this regarding the media library for WordPress.com-hosted sites at My Site ->Media, or the media library in the open source WordPress software at Media ->Add New in WP-Admin? Or are you perhaps referring to the media upload option in the WordPress editor itself, when you select an image block?

If the latter two, you’ll instead want the WordPress.org community forums, as that’s where the open source WordPress software is made:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

If you’re comfortable with Trac/GitHub, you can also open an issue there directly for your enhancement request, Trac for the Core WordPress media library, or GitHub for the editor:

I was speaking of the last item you mentioned, so thank you for the clarification. Also, thank you for linking the trac/github links as that is the appropriate place for my query.

    Much appreciation
