Hi Lisa,
It sounds like you perhaps always want the most recent post to show the “Featured” label at the top. Am I understanding correctly?
A post appears as Featured on your site when you mark it as sticky. Sticky posts always appear at the top of the page, regardless of their publication date – the purpose of sticky/featured posts is to highlight specific posts and force them to the top even though they’re not the most recent.

So the only way to change whether or not a post is shown as Featured is to edit the post, and manually changing its status to sticky or not sticky. This feature wasn’t really intended for use on the most recent post, as by default the most recent post would already be at the top, and there’s no way to automatically assign or remove the “sticky” status to a post.
