Featured Blog Posts Not Showing On Home Page
-
Hi there,
I had set up my blog accurately about two weeks ago and just finished making the blog post “A Place For Pup and Baby” today and published when I noticed that none of my featured content boxes below my main image on my homepage were showing anymore. They were before but now they’re not, I’m not sure what happened to make them disappear, currently my featured content word is “featured” and the three blog posts I have to be displayed as my featured content boxes on the home page all have “featured” included in their tag words, not sure what I’m missing now, help? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @vdlr92 ,
I’ve had a look at your site and the source code and I am stumped, too. I’m going to tag this for staff to look at. Hang in there!
How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? -
Hi there,
The featured content tag you have added in your site’s Customizer is
featuredThe tag you have added to your posts is
#featuredThose are not the same. WordPress.com does not use hashtags like Twitter or Facebook, and if you add the # symbol to a tag it’s seen as part of the tag by our system.
I would suggesting editing all your posts and replacing the tags containing # with versions without that symbol, as people searching for tags in the Reader also won’t be using the # in their searches, meaning they won’t find your posts using that in the tags.

Hi,
I’m having the same issue as the original poster. I’ve checked my tags on the posts I wanted featured, and they are written as they should be (no hashtags); yet, they still won’t show up in the theme’s featured content box. Could you take a look at my blog and see what’s wrong? http://www.blacksheeptrips.com
Thank you!

oh gad, it’s early … my apologies. let’s try that one last time. my site is http://www.blacksheeptrips.com

Hi @blacksheeptrips,
You need to add the featured tag on the Featured Content option on your Customizer for it to work.
Go to My Site > Customize > Featured Content and the tag in the Tag name field.

Hi Kokkieh,
I updated the tags to “featured” without the hashtag and they’re still not showing up. :(
-
I see on your post, https://iarainteriors.wordpress.com/2019/01/22/a-place-for-pup-baby/, you have now added the tag
feature. But that is not the tag you have set in the Customizer either. In the Customizer you have the tag set as
featured, notfeatureor#featured, so those won’t work if you add them to your posts.I don’t see any posts on your site with the tag set as
featured:
From https://iarainteriors.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=post_tag&paged=2
Also note that adding more than 15 categories and tags combined to a post will prevent your post from appearing in Tag searches in the WordPress.com Reader. Only use the tags that are most relevant to your content:

Hi again,
I don’t think I made myself clear, I know the post needs to have a “featured” tag but every time I add the featured tag a hashtag automatically gets added to it. I don’t know how to keep this from happening.
-
Hi, can you head here:
https://iarainteriors.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=post_tag&post_type=post&s=featAnd edit the tag to remove the hashtag from it?
-
For what it’s worth, it looks like you included a hashtag when you initially set this up. And since the hasthag isn’t included in the “slug” (that’s the part on the right of the screenshot #kokkieh shared) anytime you just type “feature” it reverts to the way you entered it the first time.
So editing the tag name should help with that. You can also delete the extras there too if you’d like.

Hi All,
For what it’s worth, wanted to add my 2 cents.
I had my bf, who’s a programmer, help me with the issue of the “featured content section” not showing up. Granted, mine wasn’t the issue with the hashtag that Vdlr92 has.
As of 1/25/19 anyway, it seems the issue may also be with the theme’s code. I did as fstat suggested–that didn’t work–plus I tried various other tweaks. Finally, my bf went to test out another theme, and its featured content section works just fine with the same way that we used the tags. -
Featured content should work either way if the theme supports it, so if you need help troubleshooting that let us know.
If you wanted to remove the # symbol, the link I sent above should help.

Hi @supernovia,
When I did that I got this message
“A term with the name provided already exists in this taxonomy.”
This happened whether I tried to edit the pre existing term or even when I deleted it and tried to add a new one. -
@supernovia I fixed it! I went back in to the posts area where your link sent me to and I went to see the posts overall in that same tab and quick edited the tags and it finally worked! I also went in and edited all the tags that had the hashtag to remove them. Thanks a whole bunch!
