Featured Blogs Revisited: Google algorithms
-
Hi, I received info from a WordPress support person saying that featured blogs are selected based on a “formula.” My question is, if my blog does not appear as a featured blogs, does that also affect whether search engine spiders recognize my blog.
I’m enjoying getting good page ranking for my other posts. But today, I posted a blog related to Vijay Singh and the FedEx Cup. It not only did not appear as a WordPress “featured blog,” but it hasn’t shown up on Google as a latest blog post on the topic.
My post is not your usual fluff piece. In fact it addresses racism in covering the PGA. I can’t imagine that this post would be buried or panned over, I’m hoping (cross fingers) it is a spiders thing, but I included all of the right tags. Not to mention, there are plenty of other controversial blogs out there on other topics.
At any rate, I intended to send a news release to the search engines about this blog later this week, it’s about how Vijay is always made second-shelf in the media even with a victory. I may have to curiously mention this mystery with the spiders.
Have any of you had this issue with your posts?

A: No. THey are completely independent.

Your blog is definitely indexed by google. That means there’s nothing preventing your blog from being covered by search engines.
Being indexed by search engines doesn’t mean you’ll rank well in them. A lot of people seem to think their blog isn’t in google, because they tried searching for “something” and it didn’t show up on the first page of results.

Also, so that we can help you quicker, please change the URL linked to your name to your WP.com blog. The other site is of no relevance here and in 80% of cases we have to LOOK at a blog to diagnose the real issues. Without a link to your blog, we can only guess.
Also: I have noticed a certain lack of Googlejuice on my own WP.com blog recently. It’s possible Google changed something.
