Featured content for Canard Theme not working

Hi, I’m having trouble setting up ‘featured content’ through the canard theme. I’ve never had any problems before with featured content for other themes – my last one was working perfectly.
I’ve gone through all the steps and the featured section is still not showing. I have entered ‘featured’ in the customizing section, added the ‘featured’ tag to the posts I want, and have a featured image for each post. Can’t really figure out what’s wrong?
I read somewhere in another post that if my website is self-hosted, I’ll need jetpack, but mine isn’t.

Oh man having more problems. Now when you look at a blog post the part with the author and tag cloud is on the left! Have no clue why it’s doing that and it’s completely squishing my posts. Might have to ditch this theme

Ok tried a few more things and still can’t solve the two above issues. Desperate to keep this theme as it’s exactly what I want!

Alright new problem! (This is insane) The ‘older posts’ button isn’t working, front page is just showing a super long list of all the blogs I’ve ever posted. I swear it was working a moment ago. Everytime I try a different browser I’m getting the same problem. Can someone check for me and tell me what they see?

Are you all set here? I see the “Older posts” button and it sounds like your featured content area is working.
