Featured Content Slideshow

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello…. I am trying to set my blog up.. I have 2 of my posts up and running at the top in the featured content slideshow. I have 2 other posts that I’m trying to get up there and I’ve followed all the same steps but they won’t join the slideshow!!! Why? Heeelllllppp….

Also, I saw in the example that all the posts below the 3 “recent” posts each have a lead in and then you click “more” to read the rest of the post. Mine are not posting like that. The entire post (which is long) is showing.. Anyone know why?

    Thanks! Kelly

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I just visited the Toujours theme’s page here –
    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/toujours/

And I found these instructions to get the slideshow running –

    Homepage Setup
Our demo displays the latest posts on the homepage, with a Featured Content slideshow and a special section just below it for your three latest posts.

Use Featured Content to activate the homepage slideshow:

Go to Customize → Featured Content.
Enter a tag name for the featured posts.
Edit the posts that you want to display in the slideshow, and give them the featured tag you have just selected.

If you’ve set a tag name for featured posts. All you have to do is create new posts and assign that tag to the new post which you wish to display in the slideshow.

And if you wish to display only certain part of the post instead of the long post, you can truncate your blog entries using the ‘read more’ button. More info here –

    I hope that helps :)

Hi and thank you!! Yeah I read the instructions how to do that and that’s what I did for the 4 posts I wanted in the slideshow. The 3rd one finally popped up there, but the 4th one still won’t show up in the slideshow. So I removed the tag for now…… it took several tries to get the 3rd one up there. So maybe there’s a glitch in that piece of the blog? Thanks for looking!

Hmm.. if it doesn’t work even after following the right steps then I think someone from the staff can check and see what’s wrong.

I’ll add the modlook tag so that a staff member will look into this.

    Hi there,

The 3rd one finally popped up there, but the 4th one still won’t show up in the slideshow.

In order for posts to show up in the featured slider, they need to be tagged. You’ve set up your chosen tag in the Featured Content module in your Customizer. The three posts that do appear in the slider all have a tag of ‘slideshow’. If you add it to the fourth post, it should appear.

the posts below the 3 “recent” posts each have a lead in and then you click “more” to read the rest of the post.

These posts have a More Tag — which creates the ‘continue reading’ text. This guide shows you how to add a more tag in the editor:

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi……yeah I had the tag on the 4th one but it didn’t work…..tried taking it off and putting it back on several times and it still didn’t show up in the slideshow…….so I just took it off. I’ll try again today. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

    Thanks!!!!!

Tried again today and that 4th post still won’t show up in the slideshow…..I’ll leave the tag on it so you can see. ????

    Thanks for all your help!

Ok so I left the tag on it even though it didn’t show up in the slideshow…… but now, 20 min later, it’s there. It’s like there’s a delay with it working right. ????? I don’t know. Weird. But it’s there. Thanks again for all your help!

    Hi Kelly,

You’re welcome! Glad to hear it’s appearing in the slider.

It sounds like you may have needed to clear your browser cache. There are instructions for different browsers in this guide:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Sometimes the browser will cache an older version of the page — which means your new changes don’t show up straight away.
