Featured image

When I share a post to my social media the featured image is the thumbnail, apart from on Facebook. The past few posts I’ve shared to facebook are showing images from the article on the thumbnail. I don’t want this. How do I make sure the featured image is the thumbnail?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,
If you read the description of your Eighties theme here: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/eighties/, you can see that it supports social links. It also has a step-by-step guide to add social links to your menu.

You can read more about social links menu here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/social-links-menu/

If you already added the social menu’s and just want to edit the links, then follow these instructions:
    1. Go to My Sites → Customize(Beside the Themes Menu on the Sidebar). This will open the Customizer.
    2. On the sidebar of the Customizer, click on Menus. You will find 3 options here:

    Menu Locations >

    Primary >
    Social Media >

    3. Click on Social Media >. You will find all your social links there. Click on the one you want to change, it will open up it’s respective section with 2 fields, URL and Navigation Label, copy and paste your link in the URL field.
    4. Finally, Click the blue Save & Publish at the top of the sidebar.

Let us know if it helps :)

    Hi again,
Ignore the above answer, it is not the answer to your question.
I had too many tabs opened and got lost on the way.

    I am sorry for that.

    Re: Featured image(your question):
When you share a post on Facebook or Twitter etc, we only send the URL of that post, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks scans the page through that link for the excerpt and the images to display.

So, we have no control over this. Read more about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#images-in-publicize

Read about Facebook image thumbnail here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-image-thumbnail/#image-thumbnails

    Hope this helps :)

Thanks, I wonder if it’s to do with the image size as I’m using a new format. I’ll try changing the aspect ratio for my next post and see if that helps.
    Thank you.

(also, if you click on my username on the lefthand side of this screen, it takes to someone else’s blog. They have a similar URL)

Yes, maybe it is an issue with the image size, as the facebook image thumbnail support document says that the images must be atleast 480 x 480px and also

Aspect ratio of width and height no greater than 3; in other words, the width can’t be more than three times more than the height, and vice versa.
