  i want the featured image just as a thumbnail but not in the text. how does that work?

  Yes, you can disable featured images on your blog posts on your site https://healingcastle.wordpress.com/

  To do this, open WordPress.com Customizer https://wordpress.com/customize and click on Content options on the left. You see an option called Display on single posts. Remove the mark from that option and you are good to go.
