featured image

I have sized and resized a pix I want to use as a weekly post header (featured image) until I’m blue in the face, and no matter what I do it will not show up as the featured image. I pulled it up on the customizer tab to see if it would work as a blog header, which it did, but it will not set it as a featured image on a weekly post. What in the world am I doing wrong? I never have this problem…

Hi there,
Can you please let me know the URL of the post you’re trying to insert the featured image so I can further assist you?
Thanks!

Here ya go. I kept cropping and cropping until there was pert near nothing left of the header I wanted. Is there a specific size it has to be? I ask because my regular header of the woods is a bit larger.

Hi there,
Looks like the link didn’t come through. If you could include the full link it could help us troubleshoot a bit better.
With that being said, your current theme Chateau is retired therefore the public documentation is no longer available. By looking at the code I noticed featured Images need to be at least 960px by 260px anything smaller will be ignored by the theme.
Hope this helps and let us know if you need anything else.

Let me try this again. I probably forgot the darn thing!
I checked to see what size that header was. When I finally got it to post it WAS 960×260. So is that the only size it will accept now? My regular blog header is bigger than that. And since that theme is retired, will I eventually have to change themes? That’s a lot of work. Thanks for the help, btw.

Bigger images are fine – they will be automatically resized or cropped to fit. But smaller images can’t be used.
And since that theme is retired, will I eventually have to change themes?
You’re welcome to keep using it for as long as it works, but eventually it will break, and it won’t support newer features that are introduced on WordPress.com, as we don’t update retired themes any more except for security issues. So it would be a good idea to start looking at other themes.
When you do decide to switch to another theme we’ll be happy to provide any help you need with setting up the new theme.

One more question. When I do have to choose a new theme, will it automatically transfer my media and stuff in the sidebar as well as all my posts. This is a bit scary. I am not technically inclined! :(
Thanks again for attending to these questions so promptly. I appreciate it.

That is going to depend on which theme you choose. Nothing on your site will disappear, but it might not show up where it did before. Does that make sense?
The new theme might use a different set up than the current one. A common example would be the site menu. Anything that is saved in your media library will still be there in the media library. The posts and pages will still be there too.
