Hi so what I’m trying to do is when I post a new entry, it’s only shows a small portion, and then you click read more to get the rest, then once in there, I want the photo that goes with the entry to be there but I don’t want my main photo that I use to go into every entry I post!? Helppp I hope that made sense lol, I also am confused with categories,so I created a menu and added some additional ones as you can see but when I want to make an entry I don’t have the option to where I want to post it? Is that because I should have entered it as a category? It’s kind of confusing cause the app version has way different options than the browser version? But it asks me to get the app but I did not have category options in the app, and discovered the browser version after the creation of my menus, and I’ve messed around with it so much that I don’t want to fix it until I know that’s my problem lol thank you so much

Hey Abby! Can you send a link to your site, so we know we’re talking about the same thing?
Regarding categories, for most themes I’d recommend deleting the pages you set up:
https://wordpress.com/pagesAnd then add category links instead once you’ve published a few posts:
https://wordpress.com/support/posts/categories/#category-pages-menusWe’ll take a look at the other issue once we know your theme.
Also, if it’s helpful we’ve got some great webinar resources available here:
https://wordpress.com/webinars/A few of those are designed to help you get your site up and going, so you might like that!

Hi there,
One thing I noticed is that you have created several pages in your menu… they look like they are related to topics you might plan to blog about, yes.
The issue is you seem to have set up your full menu structure before you have actually set up any blog posts, and it turns out this is sort of a chicken vs. egg problem in that you can’t actually set up the menu first. Instead you need to create the blog posts first (and add a category to each one in the post settings) and then it’s possible to set up your menu.
Can you create one blog post per topic you plan to have in your menu? i.e. one post (it can be a sample post for now) for Day-to-day, one for Adventures, one for Healing, etc?
Once you have set up a sample post for each category let us know and we can show you how to then set up your menu correctly.

Yea that makes much more sense, well I thought my way made sense until I tried to post an entry there lol ok I’ll do this and get started, I’m assuming I can still post a sub category inside a category?
-
It is possible to create sub-categories on WordPress.com, though to do that you will want to get the main (or “parent”) categories set up first.
I will say however that dropdown menus (especially really extensive ones) can be hard for site visitors to navigate on mobile. It’s much easier on a desktop computer, but harder for people on small phone screens.
Because of that we usually recommend not worrying about sub-categories, and just sticking to a good set of top-level categories instead. It also keeps things simpler for you (as the site owner) which can be helpful when you are starting out… they can always be added later down the road

Ok I’ll focus on just categories! Now that being said, I just created a new blog under adventures and a little write up under contacts, I do not see the contacts one a entered at all and when I created the new blog for adventures, it did not ask me anywhere if I wanted to add this as a category? What am I do8ng wrong, and is it too late now that I’ve published it to change it to be in a category, 😩

Hi there,
Do you mean a blog post? The term “blog” refers to the entire site :)
So far there is only one post on your site, http://myhumbleabode.home.blog/2020/12/03/first-time-blogger-here/. That post is assigned to the default category, Uncategorized (you can change the default category at My Site ->Manage ->Settings).
You have one other unpublished draft post on your site, also set to the default category.
it did not ask me anywhere if I wanted to add this as a category?
The editor doesn’t pro-actively ask you if you want to add a category. To add a category, edit the post, make sure the editor sidebar on the right has the Post tab selected, and look for Categories and Tags in the sidebar. If you don’t explicitly select a category, the default category will be used automatically.
https://wordpress.com/support/posts/categories/#assigning-posts-to-categories
and is it too late now that I’ve published it to change it to be in a category,
You can add, remove, or change the categories and tags on a post at any time, even after the post has been published.
Just go to My Site ->Site ->Posts and edit the post, and click on Categories and Tags in the editor sidebar as I explained above.

I just created a new blog under adventures
You added “Adventures” as a tag to the post, not as a category.

I have another question, and I can’t seem to figure it out, I’ve seen it before but have no clue how to get back to it, I want my home page to have my feature image and I want it to show a small portion of my most recent blog entry, then click for more and show the entire new entire with it’s appropriate photo and what category it comes from!? Are you able to help me with that?! Thanks
