Featured image and excerpt ?

I want to include a featured image and an excerpt in my blog page, because I only have the post headlines showing at the moment. I know that I have to change something in the Index and archive, but since I am new – I really don’t know what to do.
This is the area where I believe I need to change something and I would like if someone could instruct me what to do.

We provide support only for blogs hosted by WordPress.COM. As that site is not hosted here by WordPress.COM, our support docs do not relate to it, and we cannot provide support for it. You are posting to the wrong support forum.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums.
